anyone here read the above-named novel, by john ball? it does a very good description of how a gutted military can be surrendered by a schmuck in the president's office.

According to Amazon, it's out of print, but it certainly sounds interesting (albeit a bit dated). My son's a big Tom Clancy fan, so I may look this up for him. Ball is an award-winning mystery writer (including "In The Heat Of The Night"), so it should be a good read.
