Who were the libellatici and what did they do?

Answers

The libellatici were christians who in the early persecution bought a *libellum sacrificii* from the civil authorities in the roman empire. This was a document that attested that the bearer was offering sacrifices to the roman gods when in fact it wasn't so. That was a way of avoiding being persecuted.
