Espon Photo PC 700 CompactFlash Sizes?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I just orderd an Epson Photo PC 700, and want to expand its memory. Epson's site says that it only supports up to a 32Mb CF card, but one vendor's site listed almost all of their cards, including their professional 80Mb/8x mem card as being compatible.

Has anyone actually used a card larger than 32Mb in this particular camera for any length of time succesfully? If so, which brand?

Thanks in advance!! -Allen

I just bought a 32meg compact flash and compact flash reader from Lexar for my Epson 750z so I don't have first hand knowledge of larger than 32 meg. However from everything I have heard about compact flash is that all of the "smarts" are on flash card. This allows future upgradeability since none of the critical interface hardware is located inside the camera like smartmedia is. In that sense smartmedia should have been named dumbmedia. From what I can tell Lexar has there stuff together and if they say it will be compatable then I don't doubt them. Here is a phrase I copied from there web site; All Lexar products are designed to be 100% compatible with any digital camera employing CompactFlash technology. That kind of says it all to me.

By the way why do you need more that 32meg? I hope you have a flash card reader. 32meg and larger filled with pictures are going to take awhile to download over the serial cable.

I have a 750z and the 8meg that came with it from Lexar. I also have a 48meg CF SanDisk card that works flawlessly. Why do I need more than 32 meg? Well I bought the 48meg for $120 on sale at Buycom. I couldn't find a better deal. It works!

Do not matter, with CF cards you can go as far as the cards can. Even two years old cameras with CF works nowadays with 48 Mb for example.

I tried this morning pc700 with 48mb from hitachi, and it worked.
