SONOMA FORUM AND SANTA ROSA Y2K MEETING CANCELLED

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Sonoma County : One Thread

The Sonoma County Y2K Forum, which has been running since last Fall, is not going to be held anymore, unless a need arises in the future, since there has been a dramatic withering of attendance at the last few meetings, says coordinator Brad Larsen.

Larsen and members of the Forum steering committee feel that local communities are well on their way to organizing themselves and want to put their efforts into their own neighborhoods.

In addition, Grace Fellowship has called off future workshops and classes until perhaps the fall, but will keep the Y2K Resource Center open.

Christine Johnson, who organizes the meetings at Strawberry School in Bennett Valley for Santa Rosa residents interested in Y2k, says she won't hold a meeting this week but will keep the multi-purpose room available for possible meetings in the future.

Let's not forget everything we have all done together to become more aware of Y2K, establishing new relationships around the issues, reaching out to our neighbors, making new alliances, learning about preparedness on more levels than we ever thought imaginable.

We have Ralph Metzner's Y2K conference on May 2 and the Affordable Alternative Energy workshop with Dan Drasin at New College of California in June or July. Joseph Antaree is working hard on getting the Community Gardens project up and running.

Sonoma Y2K is going to move into a new phase now to meet new needs. Don't hesitate to start your own avenue of exploration or interest to help us move in this new direction.

Thanks to all of you for being a part of this.

Jean

1-Who is your best contact person for events announcements? 2-If you have a net address for up-dated Y2K news, documents, etc., please relay that to us. 3.If you have a seperate "preparedness" net site, please indicate that, too. 4. Do you have a seperate site for current status of Y2K situations, please tell us... 5. Are there any California-wide Y2K resources that you especially prize (and beyond California, too)? 6. Is there any special kind of Y2K resource that you would like to see on the net, which does not exist, so far as you know?

I appreciate very much whatever you can forward to me--and I will try to put it to good use for other Y2K groups in California.

Dick Murray, for "Town Meeting Democracy's" Y2K Task Force (In Monterey County), and just recently, Bob Beech's "Rep" for Calafornia.
