CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - World War Three will start in July in the Balkans, last seven months and end in victory for the U.S.-led North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to a new analysis of 16th century French seer Nostradamus.

"He is clear it will start before the end of the century during the period of Cancer which is between June 22 and July 23, and in a triangle bordered by Greece, Italy and Turkey, which is the Balkans," University of Stellenbosch Professor of Political Science Willie Breytenbach told Reuters Monday.

"I have to emphasize I am a skeptic. I am an academic who was bored on a Sunday. But what I found was so chilling that I put pen to paper," he added.

NATO allies have been bombing targets in Serbia for more than a month in a so-far abortive effort to force Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic to stop expelling the ethnic Albanian majority in the Serbian province of Kosovo.

The air campaign has triggered angry responses from Russia, caused a biblical exodus of refugees from Kosovo and forced the allies to contemplate sending in ground forces.

Breytenbach said he found references to the conflict in 18 of the 950 quatrains written by Michel de Notre Dame in 1555 which have been found to refer to the fire of London, Louis Pasteur and Adolf Hitler among others.

"In one quatrain he mentions the Slav people. He also mentions war in the mountains which, taken with what we know and the talk of land forces, all gelled," he added.

One of the quatrains also mentions a "tyrant" whose name begins with "M," which could refer to Milosevic.

Another notes that the Serbs will "change their prince," which Breytenbach took to be a reference to the possible overthrow of the Serb leader.

In another verse there is a reference to three years and seven months of peace before the war.

"I suddenly noticed that the Dayton peace accord was signed on November 21, 1995. Adding three years and seven months to that brings us to the end of June 1999," Breytenbach said.

The Dayton peace accord, to which Milosevic was a signatory, finally ended the conflict in Bosnia.

Breytenbach said Nostradamus made several references to the fact that Greece would be involved in the conflict and that there would be bloodshed in Turkey. There is also mention of the involvement of Italy.

There are references to the Alus, which Breytenbach took to refer to the NATO allies in which the United States is the dominant force, and the Mabus which he said could refer to Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia and Serbia.

"He, Nostradamus, is quite clear the war will last seven months and the ultimate victor will have been born on American soil," Breytenbach said. **********************************

i have read nostradamus in the original french, latin, and gibberish. the fun and frustration of nostradamus, is that you can come up with any number of different interpretations for each quatrain.

Yugoslav Mystics Predict End of War

ZEMUN, Yugoslavia (AP) -- The most frequent question asked of Spasoje Vlajic these days is when NATO airstrikes on Yugoslavia will end. ``The war,'' he predicts firmly, ``will stop May 21.''

An engineer by profession but mystic by calling, the 53-year-old has been drawing a steady stream of visitors to his small office outside Belgrade since the NATO attacks began a month ago.

``They come in greater numbers now,'' says the man with the piercing blue eyes. ``Most ask, `When will all this end.'''

That question was clearly on the mind of the six people crowded into the small office recently -- along with related worries about survival.

Mira Zelenkovic said she had turned to seers several times over the past weeks in her search for an answer on when the NATO strikes would cease.

``That's the only thing I'm eager to know now,'' said Zelenkovic, a fashionably dressed woman in her 50s. ``And of course whether my two kids will survive.''

Vlajic says his method is simple. He came upon May 21 as the end date as only a numerologist would: through a magical calculation rite he performs with numbers.

``I watch satellite TV stations, I follow the Internet,'' he explains, sitting behind a desk crowded with books and manuscripts and in front of a painting with mystical symbols of the universe. ``But I also have a higher grasp on the cause and effect of current events, one which surpasses what one commonly hears on the media.''

Then he went on to explain the ``real story'' of the NATO airstrikes. Don't worry, he told his attentive visitors -- ``NATO countries have always been punished in a form or another after bombing Serbs.''

He provides what to him is an obvious example: the NATO bombing earlier this month of the town of Aleksinac, in which 13 civilians died, was followed by a train accident in Germany, resulting in deaths.

Vlajic also has an explanation for the mass murder at the Columbine High School in Colorado: ``It followed a NATO airstrike that decimated a Kosovo Albanian refugee convoy.''

To the seer, this is the ``magic revenge'' on enemies of the Serbs.

Others who claim to know the future may not see such links but also predict that next month may bring an end to the strikes.

``It is very difficult to say when this war will end but I think mid-May will be crucial for peace in the Balkans,'' says clairvoyant Rade Zivanovic, reached by phone in his home in Mladenovac, 25 miles southeast of Belgrade. ``Peace will come then, but it will be very fragile and unstable.''

Even in peacetime, fortune telling is a lucrative profession in this predominantly Orthodox Christian country, where, there is a thin line for many between religion and superstition. Seers report prominent politicians and businessmen among their clients -- but say professional ethics prevent them from divulging names.

Some of the fertile ground for mystics is sown by the widespread belief that Serbs are a special people, an idea fomented by their turbulent history and their sense of having endured repeated onslaughts and challenges.

Vlajic is one of those preaching that dogma.

``Serbs are going to be the winners,'' he says of this conflict, with a conviction that few of his clients doubt. After all they wouldn't be here if they did not want to believe.

Seers here and elsewhere started profiting from the war even before it began. One of them, Leon Gershman of Russia, became renowned across Serbia after he predicted at the start of the year that NATO airstrikes would begin March 24.

They did. Now Gershman says war will end when snow falls this spring, leaving some Serbs to search the skies first thing each morning for snowflakes.

Nostradamus, the 16th century French astrologer has become predictably popular. Many who are skeptical of an early end to the conflict repeat his prediction about a July 1999 apocalypse.

However, few cite the famous 19th century Serbian seer, Mitar Tarabic.

He said Serbs would wage a major war in the future and that their leader would lead them to disaster, defeat -- and decimation.

``There will only be enough Serbs to gather under a plum tree,'' he predicted.

Of course the war will "end" in January; the military systems and weapons are not Y2K 'ready.' If our troops are still stuck over there by January, the bloodshed will be far from over.

There is a prophecy in Daniel 7 that foretells that which is about to happen. It is widely assumed to have been fulfilled over 2,000 years ago, but a close examination of the prophecy, compared with Revelation 13, shows that it will take place at the time of the end (which is fast approaching).

This prophecy speaks of four beasts rising up from the sea (which is symbolic of the nations of the world). These beasts represent end-time power blocks.

Daniel 7:3 "And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man's heart was given to it. 5 And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: 'Arise, devour much flesh!' 6 After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it. 7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns."

The first beast can be identified by the creatures it is composed of. The lion is the national symbol of England, while the eagle is the national symbol of America. The first beast represents the British/American led NATO forces, which are now at war in Yugoslavia. This "beast" will be humbled, with the eagle portion of it being destroyed ("wings plucked off"). The second beast will perform this "plucking."

The second beast is the Russian bear. Russia will destroy the wings of the first beast, which represent the USA, leaving the remainder of NATO (especially England) humbled and impotent. Russia will "devour much flesh" in their attack on the USA and NATO.

The third beast represents an Islamic confederacy of four nations, led by Iran. The national symbol of Iran is the leopard; in fact, the Iranian flag used the have a leopard on it.

The fourth beast, which will be much different from the first three, will be the NWO global government. It will assimilate the other kingdoms and the rest of the nations of the world.

Sorry my friend. Those four listed in Daniel are not england and us. There is another requirement from Revelation.In Revelation 17 it says The seven heads are seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come: the eighth belongs to the seventh. This was written when Rome was in power. That is the one "that is". The other five that have fallen, are already fallen at the time of John writing this. That means not us...we didn't exist. The five are all nations that persecuted jews. They are Eygpt, Assyria, Babylon, Media-Persia Greece. YOu see them also in Daniel. The fourth beast there is represented as Greece who had 4 heads. Greece when fallen split into 4 different parts under Alexander's top Generals. Antiochus Epiphanes eventually came to power .
