Two male cats in one household?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

Hi, I'm getting ready to move in to an apt. with a roomated who has a 1yr. old neutered male cat. I just purchased a male Maine Coon which is about 6 months old and not neutered. The Cattery offered me the cat for free if I signed a contract to bring him back for breeding one time, then I could neuter him.

I think that having two male cats, one neutered and one not is asking for a lot of fights and spraying. Any suggestions??

P.S. If I do get my new cat neutered right away, I then owe $600 for the cat, instead of nothing.

I don't think he will necessarily start spraying. The neutered male is no threat to him because he is neutered. And your boy is still too young to realize what is going on anyway. He may even welcome the fact he now has a playmate. My male is now 2 1/2 years old. Until last year, he had one of our neuters as his playmate and he hasn't sprayed a drop yet. So you can try it and see how he does. He may surprise you.
