Dumb question - how do I cut and paste here?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Help! There was something I wanted to post here but could not get this box to paste what I had cut. What am I doing wrong?

did you make sure your curser was active in the box? If the "Edit" "Paste" doesn't want to work, try using "CTRL" and "V" at the same time. Did you actually copy to the clipboard? I've done that trick before, thought I did, but actually didn't.

You might need to COPY and paste, not CUT, if you are getting the information from another website and not your own word processor or clipboard.

Thanks! The ctrl V did the trick.

I'll bet it didn't format even close to the original.

SOme of us are talking about the ramifications, which are different that the tech causes. Some of us are fossils just working on these little things for not so long (hey, this thing doesn't need jcl to run a report. Ain't that neat?) [OH, Sorry, you webheads haven't a clue what jcl is...... or that it happens to be how the other half of the world works ...oh well]

And some of us are MS Office Pro's, and not real familiar with Lotus suite, or the text editor (I use the term loosely) for this forum.

Phil:: There are fora out there that give the poster the choice of generation of the post inside the window, or pasting in .txt, or .doc, or html, formats. Any possibility of that here??

Idiots (DoU@GIuptheA$$.com) must have taken the day off from school today. What grade are you in Idiots? 6th maybe? <:)=

Sysman, you sure do have a short fuse.

Chuck, to get all the html formatting: [NEW WINDOW] [VIEW] [SOURCE]

You will see a text document with all tags showing. Find the text you're looking to copy. Compare the tags to the format you see on the Forum page. Copy what you think is appropriate.

Another [NEW WINDOW].

Go to http://206.67.59.5/wwwboard2/

Scroll down to POST A MESSAGE. Enter something in the top three fields, it doesn't matter what. Paste the text+tags you copied into the message window. Ignore the last three entry fields. Click on [PREVIEW MESSAGE]. You'll see what you have or have not accomplished. From there on it's trial and error, referring back to the source code file as necessary.

Just don't submit the preview window -- go back to the Forum submission page for that.

Hey -- I didn't deal these cards.

Only when dealing with morons Tom. There is no such thing as a dumb question here, only the occasional dumb answer. <:)=
