Photo Sharing Web Sites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm looking for recommendations on good photo sharing web sites. I've tried a few, but they are so SLOW.

Do you just mean sites with photos? There are many (thousands? millions?). Some are mentioned on the B&W Photo URLs.

The speed will depend on how you connect to the Internet, and on how busy the net is. I connect by modem, so a typical 50k photos takes about 10 seconds to download. I prefer to access when the USA is asleep.

Club Photo (www.clubphoto.com) has a nifty client that runs on your PC, organizes your photos, and automates the publishing process. This will at least ease the pain of uploading the images, by letting you not have to baby-sit the computer while its happening. Viewing photos will be almost entirely dependent on your dialup connection: Unless the site is really scrimping on their connectivity, there shouldn't be any delays on their end.

A disclaimer: We're pursuing a more tightly-coupled business relationship with Club Photo, so I'm probably biased. OTOH, the reason we're doing this is because I was so impressed with their solution...

The largest free site I've seen for displaying your photos on the Web is PhotoPoint (http://albums.photopoint.com/index.html). ClubPhoto (http://www.clubphoto.com) has fewer photos available for viewing at the moment, but they do have some nice software. ClubPhoto is where my online photos are - the albums are at (http://members1.clubphoto.com/ richard56426/)

Try www.dotphoto.com. This unique site is launching May 12th and lets you add voice files to your photos (they send you a free computer microphone when you register). They also make prints (including upgrading your resolution automatically) and host your password protected personal album for life. Check them out.
