Every now and then I notice someone vehemently stating that the new Star Wars movie is going to topple TITANIC. Usually it is a young male. My response when I can give one is that because young girls returned to see TITANIC over and over so many times TITANIC became a success story that Star Wars cannot overcome because not enough males will return to see the movie enough times to financially lift it to the level of TITANIC. A few TITANIC lovers have told me I am wrong and that they fully expect the new SW film to knock TITANIC out of its number one spot. What are everyone's thoughts on this??

Answers

I'm predicting a total North American box office take of at least $500 million for The Phantom Menace, and that it will reach this level by late June.

All indications are that it will shatter the records currently held by Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World.

By July, I expect some of the momentum to fall-off...how much depends on how good the film is, especially after a second and third viewing.
