Why did Wayne Gretzky retire from hockey?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This is in response to Rachel Gibson's question "Why did the head of the Toronto Stock Exchange suddenly resign?"

Also note that both Wayne Gretzky and Rowland Fleming, the president of the TSE, are both Canadians?

A puzzle, eh?

I'll get Bob and Doug McKenzie right on it!

It's all inter-connected. It can't be fixed. Get out of the rink while you can. Don't be around those maurading hoardes of NHL fans.

We started to late. It's systemic.

I realize the question is a jab at those trying to "follow the money". Still, Gretzky's resignation from sports shouldn't be a surprise...he's 38!

This one's a no-brainer.

Obviously, he's not Y2K compliant.

Gretzky, #99, would roll over to a couple of big fat zeros come the end of this year. This would cause him to crash and burn.

Ranger's management considered renumbering Wayne to 1999 in order to solve the problem. However, four digits wouldn't fit on his shirt. What else could he do but retire!

What, he couldn't be windowed?

Craig,

ROTFLMAO- That was hilarious!

He could havre been windowed but they don't make that great plexiglass you see in arenas in large enough sheets to cover the subject, the records, and all.

Chuck, who STILL thinks the best seat in a hockey arena is next to the goal judge.

He heard about Y2K so he wants to stay home with his wife Janet(!) and blow the frick out of anyone who tries to break in.
