Excuse me if this has been asked before, but does anyone know if a Petromax lamp will burn paraffin? Thanks

Being a semi-literate Yank, do you mean parafin as in the liquid fuel or parafin, as in the wax here in the States?

Just called Diana (to order the easy pump up valve) and I asked about the parafin...she said yes it would burn parafin...she or Eddie will probably post more on this question.

Everyman:

Hi, sweetie. Sorry for the delay in response, but to answer your question......YES....you can use the parafin fuel in the Petromax lanterns. In Germany, the "parafin" fuel is called "clear white kerosene" (as quoted from our booklet instructions) which is parafin. In the States, they call is "K-1 kerosene" or "home heating oil #1". K-2 kerosene, and home heating oil #2 can be used, as well, but it runs a tad-bit smellier. It has a yellowish color to it.

Hope this info has helped out, and thanks to "R.B" for being my "Knight in Shining Armor". God Bless!!

Thankyou Diana. That does help a lot.

This is one of those potentially stupid questions.

(Sidenote: I used to do a lot of training groups, such in software and other business skills. You know there's that line about 'there's no such thing as a stupid question.' Well everybody gets a little bit of cynical humor about the people they work with. My day was made when I heard the saying, "There's no such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid people LIKE YOU who ask questions." LOL!)

Ahem. What was I saying. Oh yeah: To the fuel issue.

I'm buying those reasonably cheap oil lamps in walmart. They have a wick that's about 1/ 2" wide, cotton or whatever. Obviously, they use lamp oil. If you try to use any other kind of liquid fuel in a lamp, am I correct in assuming you could blow yourself up?
