computer-triggered camera

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Which digital cameras allow to push the trigger via the serial port controlled by a PC? Also, some parameter control via the PC would be nice. I need this because I want to take a series of pictures over half a year from 30 feet high poles where the camera will be permanently attached, with a serial cable running down the pole.

Thanks for help,

Arno

I've done this with my Kodak DC210 using an API written for Linux, and you can of course also do this with MS Windows using the SDK available from Kodak.

The Epson 750z can be controlled from a computer via the serial cable. You actually have more control from the computer than from the camera. You can set the shutter speed manually from the computer but not from the camera.

Kodak also publishes ActiveX controllers.

Does anybody know of any other camera makers that publish ActiveX controllers?

I've recently discovered that this sort of thing doesn't exactly warrant a "CLICK ME NOW!!!" link on the home page. ;]

Thanks,

Robert
