High resolution point and shoot digital cameras?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi, A friend of mine is a professional model who frequently pays local photographers $250 for three roles and then adds the price onto her fee, if a company or publication would prefer not to pay the airfare to fly her in just for one photo shoot. Since many of these companies that hire her accept high resolution digital photos, say 1280 X 960 or higher, as a substitute for 35mm slides, she has expressed interest in getting a digital camera so that one of her friends could just snap the photos for free. I was planning on getting one for her as a present, but am completely swamped by all the choices out there. I'm seriously considering the Nikon CP 700 but am starting to fear it might be overhyped and I was hoping someone could give me advice on some point and shoot cameras with auto focus that take high quality shots in a varity of light conditions, if there are any such cameras. You can respond either by email or with a post.

Thanks, Mike

See my response to "And then there were two" submitted 3/29. There are some real bargains out there while they last.
