liver problems in standards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

i have a white standard bitch, who after her first heat at 10 months of age started to lose weight. she is now very thin to the point of spine and hip bones protruding. i had blood tests done which came back below normal in the liver and blood clotting. she does eat, seems to be getting a bit aggressive towards my male, and sleeps alot. any suggestions, i have cut down her coat as it was not growing very well, and she is retired from the ring. she has a lovely temperment and it upsets me that she is sick, could this liver problem be heretiarty.

rose I am sorry to hear that your girl is sick. Have you looked at toxins in her environment as being a possible cause for her problems, eg lead from paint or any medication. I am probably clutching at straws but it is worth a thought. With heavy heart Regards Wendy and Taylor

Aloha Rose, I am sorry to hear about your poodle. Have you checked into using holistic care or a naturopathic vet/doctor? Or acupuncture? My vet says that sometimes a combination of homeopathic care and vetinary care can be a good choice towards healing your pet. I have used a naturopathic doctor (human) and he was also a certified accupuncturist (human) on my dobe for wobblers' disease. Although it was strictly for pain management as wobbler's does not have a cure except for surgery, it did help her for a while, and cured her incontinence (she had that for several years). Hope this helps you.

Aloha, Charlene

Rose, I hope you were not using one of the "Spot on the shoulders" flea control products on your pup. I believe there are warnings somewhere about side effects, but I don't know. I think that that type of product was the cause of what seemed to be arthritis in one of my dogs and failure to conceive in another.
