I am having problems opening RAW Canon A5 format in Adobe photoshop. It could not open it and I also could not view the digital pictures I took. Thanks for information.

I don't know about the A5 Zoom - hope to get one from Canon to test soon. But.. On the original A5, you could only read the "RAW" files by running them through the camera, as I recall. Thus, if you pulled them off via a card reader, you needed to put them BACK onto the card, then pull the images off via the serial cable from Canon's software. You might try the Canon software directly on the disk file though, see if they've updated it to permit direct reading from disk. You can pretty well count on there being NO way to read these things in Photoshop: It's a VERY weird format, with CMY filters, rather than RGB, and a very odd data interleaving. Ben Jackson, who frequents this group figured out the file format, based on the Pro 70's RAW format, which I think is the same. Hunt up one of Ben's posts, and email him for details if you're interested...

Yeah, from what I gather, the RAW format is a propietary Canon format and would need to be read by canon's software, saved as a standard format (like TIFF) and then loaded into PS.

This is the answer I found to my above question. Canon CCD raw format can be opened using the supplied twain drivers. If you have adobe photoshop, under file menu, choose import then it will automatically load canon a5 driver, which allow you to import and save the raw format under whatever format you desire. I did not try them with other digital image software but I think it should work.
