Just came in off the yard after tidying up the strawberry bed--and there are those exquisite little white blossoms and tiny green berries already. It's 85 degrees, nice breeze, birds, squirrels, all that good stuff. Dogwoods just coming into bloom, spirea at its peak, late daffodils, pansies, phlox, early azaleas, wallflowers, verbena, all blooming. Fat buds on lots of other stuff. Lettuce coming along nicely. Tomato plants settling in.

Maybe Hermes never saw a central North Carolina spring. Or, more likely, he wrote those words in a central NC July or August--that's enough to make anyone ponder death!
