Don't they know we've got boobs?

Don't VS and Fredericks and the mainstream bra manufacturers know that large breasted women have the same desire to wear sexy lingerie as women with small breasts? Does anyone else think that there is a real market for sexy lingerie for women with D-cup and above bra size?

Answers

Speaking for myself (an au-natural D-cup) I think that the clothing industry sucks. All of the neat-o fashions today are for little boobed people...not just places like Fredericks and VS either, but other places too...

Example? In order for me to get a simple button-down-the-front shirt for myself, I have to usually go into a size that is way larger then what I should be in because if I go with a medium or something, the buttons pucker and it looks retarted...

tiff number 2 that I have about clothing is that some bra manufacturers can make d-cup size bras, but it's like they forgot to add the extra material for it...so you get that "4-boob" look thing going on...know what I mean? Where it cuts into the middle of your boobs and under a shirt it looks like you have 4...

and my final tiff that I have in the clothing department (which I have stated in a different article in this forum) is that when you go shopping for a bra, or a bikini top, the larger the size you are looking for, the more padding it seems to have. WHAT DOES A D+ SIZED PERSON NEED MORE PADDING FOR?! I just don't get it...

I hope this isn't too far afield (and that the Mouth Organ people won't mind the traffic), but take a look at http://www.mouthorgan.com/bin/nimue?type=article&date=19981112 . More importantly, read the comments on the column, following the appropriate link at the bottom of it...

hi roberta s., i have to tell you i don't feel you and women like you are treated fairly! there is a market out there for women with d-cup and larger! many women with large breasts (small and large sized women) have always had a problem finding not only a bra that fits, but one that is also comfortable, sexy or affordable! I have dated women with different cup sizes ranging from b-cup thru dd-cup and as the cup sizes get larger the styles and varieties (and comfort) goes out the window not to mention that they charge an arm and a leg for the product! the manufacturers should take into consideration these women and make more of an effort to satisfy their customers more! it's a form of discrimination that there is such a market where women of smaller size can walk into any store to by clothing and feel good, sexy, comfortable and find good sales around for these clothes but larger women have to search for a particular store to be able to find what she needs or would like! i have always felt that if i were in the clothing business that this was an area that a fortune could be made by making exclusively for these women of larger size a product that there is enough style, quality and quantity at a fair price! too bad i went into the engineering field! i wish you and all the other women out there with the same problem with these manufacturers! good luck! sincerely, john f. kurpick

Right on, Roberta. I hate going into Victoria's Secret. The salesladies take a glance at me and act like I've come in to stretch out their bras. I ask for my size and they all say "ohhh nooo, we don't carry that size...." like I'm a circus freak. I wear a 38 C for lord's sake! Not only are department store bras usually boring or ugly, they are so much more expensive!

-- Anonymous, April 12, 1999

Not only do you have to buy an XL size just to wear a shirt that covers your front, when you buy a dress that fits your front it's always too large around your hips.

I suggest a store called "Hourglass" that makes clothes for the curvy female. five seven nine my ass.

AAAAAAHHH!! I LOVE you women!!! You gals are great! Finally someone who isn't whining about how tiny their titties are! I'm so sick of hearing it! They don't know how easy they've got it. I would kill to have those tiny little pommes-titts. That's what I call them, Apple Boobies. Girls with those little perky round fist sized boobs make me jealous. They can wear cute little tank tops without looking like a hooker. They can go out in public without wearing a bra. They can defy gravity. Not to mention the fact that they can buy a bra in the first place. I own two that are semi-comfortable, a dark blue and a white. Both of my bras are ugly as hell. Forget the notion that "big" breasted women can actually wear sexy lingerie. It's all a Hollywood myth. We're stuck in these nasty, ugly, boring undies. Let me tell you, putting on a bra manufactured by "OLGA" does NOT make one feel sexy and cute. It makes me feel like I should be hitching my ass up to the plow 'cause the horse isn't strong enough! Olga....ugh.

Why not just call themselves The Big Ass Ugly Bra Company? Makes the same statement. No cutesy little girlie bra by Vickie's Secret for me, it's Olga all the way. Woo-hoo

Girls with apple boobie soo piss me off. They see me (especially in the summer) dragging my pals around, bumping into anything placed at chest height, and they say "Oh, how I wish I had your boobs". I tell them to take 'em. Yeah, ok so guys like em, who cares? As soon as they see Olga, you know they're wondering what's the deal with the ugly undies and where's the Vickie's. I would LOVE to be able to buy a bikini without either commiting a misdemeanor or having to spend a fortune. It's true, I have to either sneak a "large" top with a "small" bottom through the register, and hope I don't get caught, or I have to buy those vereee pricey seperates. I could always buy some granny-wear, but I don't think the skirted suit look is really me.

So, do all you want to start the Squishy Clothing Co? We could all get together and design a line of cute, attractive, COMFORTABLE clothing for the larger-breasted woman. All sizes of the larger-breasted woman. The larger-bodied-in-general woman and the genetic-freak-like-me woman can both be clothed! Pamie can do the cutsey CareBears designs... John F. Kurpic, you can help us. In fact, you are exactly what we need. An engineer can help us with stress levels and load tolerances and cup capacity and so on. Forget bridges or computer chips or whatever you build, get to work on building the better bra for bigger busted babes! *I work with engineers, I know what you are capable of if you try*

If you are wondering about the whole genetic freak thing, I'm 5'3", I weigh 110 lbs, and I wear a 36D. Can we say "I'm a stick with boobs"? It's horrible. I'd really like to be able to see my tummy without having to manually move 'the gals'. I'd like to eat toast without getting a crunchy bra. I'd like to have tiny, apple sized boobies....sigh...

oh man, oh man, do i know what you guys are talking about, how about us "big" grrls, yeah, im a fatty, get over it, you want my boobs? take 'em, they're more trouble than they're worth, trust me. i agree agree agree with everything stated before, i mean, i need support, im 18, i need cute, and dammit! i want matching panties! why cant we have cute stuff, what? we've got big boobs, therefore, anything cute or slightly sexy is not for us? screw the hollywood image of sexy, im not thin nor do i want to be, hell, i couldnt be if i wanted too, but still we should all have a fair chance, man, one day i know, im gonna be in there, ready to "get jiggy w/ it" and the guy's just gonna be like 'damn, them's is big panties' that just sucks sucks sucks! okay, enough about my drawers, i think someone should make stuff for us, although i did find a very comfortable cotton bra by bali's, its pretty cute, super supportive, and it breathes, a must for hot days, nice and underwired, i mean, like anyone wants one of those nasty playtex granny bras, i want my cute, all you can get a fredrick's is stuff that lets your nipples pop through, what is that?! i mean, ick ick ick!! anyway, there's my helpful hint for they day, okay, yeah

-- Anonymous, April 12, 1999

I'm sure this isn't news to some of you, but you'll find much better selection at department stores. Macy's sometimes has a good selection of bras. My boobs mercifully shrunk somewhere along the line, but I used to find fairly decent stuff (cheaper than VS, too) at Macy's. You do have to wade through the bras that would only appeal to someone with a serious mom fetish, but I found quite a few cute D cup bras at Macy's over the years. (You don't really want to wear a demi bra anyway, do you? Those don't look or feel good on anyone over an A cup.)

-- Anonymous, April 13, 1999

Do you have Foley's where you are? Is that a Texas thing? Anyway, I totally agree with you there, Beth. Department stores are the way to go in terms of comfort and quality. VS just rips apart in the wash.

Speaking of bras, Lillith puked in my new white bra. I'm so pissed off. Mostly because I didn't know until I PUT IT ON! ick. ick. ick.

man! how gross are cats?

OH. MY. GOD. I can't believe someone besides me is talking about this whole "can't-find-a-damn-thing-to-wear-cause-of-my-chest" issue!!! I am 5'6, I work out A LOT (YEAH Tae-Bo!!! It friggin' works like no other!) and I have a 36D chest. I do not think I am fat by any means. However, dresses in size 8 don't fit across my chest yet are HUGE from my rib cage on down, unless of course, you buy those little strechy dresses, in which case everyone looks at you like you are some big slut. Small chested women get to wear cute little stretchy dresses all summer and everyone goes "Ohh, how cute she looks". I put one on and it's traffic stopping for men, who feel the need to comment on the size of my chest on a daily basis and, from other women, they just think I am trampy so I get evil looks all day long. Well, SHAME ON THEM!! I did not ask for these boobs and if you got a problem with 'em DON'T LOOK! And, another thing, I work hard to keep my body in shape so I should not have to "hide" my boobs under a huge shirt that would just make me look terrible. It's not fair. On the bright side, my husband wouldn't trade me or my boobs in for anything. So to all the flat chested girls out there who love to stare at me like I am some kind of freak with no right in the free world to wear a tank top in 98 degree New York weather -- NAH NAH I have boobys and you don't so take your push ups and shove 'em!

Whoa, guess I really needed to vent! Thanks guys! Christine :)

Please don't kill me ladies, I'm just a little thing.

I would just like to say that I totally understand where you gals are coming from. Big bras look like they were made to double as suspension bridges or something. I am however absolutely flat chested. No "apple-boobies" for me. I look like I am 12 years old in a bathing suit. Not that I'm complaining so much, but I don't look so great in a bra, be it from Vickie's or WalMart.... But what I really wanted to say is why are bras so damned expensive? I mean, for such a small amount of fabric, why should it cost $20??

And why should y'all have to pay more than me....That is bunk! I feel stupid for posting now.... Just know that I only wear Wal mart bras cause that's all I can afford and I still look like a child in them.. so if we're talking unsexy, I am there!

-- Anonymous, April 13, 1999

Uh oh, Pamie, it must be in the air -- Benny puked in MY bra two nights ago.

At least he didn't drag it into the litter box, which he has also been known to do.

On a related note, I walked around all day yesterday in one of those little stretchy Jockey for Her bandaid bras, and man, was that a mistake.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 1999

Almost as bad as the lingerie is the exercise apparel. Here's a hint, people: if we were all bitty-titted little girls proportioned to fashion industry standards, we wouldn't be buying goddamn sports bras. You're offering us the "after" picture. We're still in "before". God forbid I should want to wear my sports bra without a shirt over it and not get kicked out of the gym for excess armhole spillage.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 1999

OK, I didn't read this thread for a while because I figured it was Ladies Only, but I have to say this is informative stuff to know. I've found women I date are totally impressed when I keep up in their conversations about clothes shopping, or getting their hair done, etc. And believe me, it took a lot of time to learn all about it. So now I'll add Bra Knowledge to my list of things I can keep my end up on in conversation. Thanks.

And I puked in my girlfriend's bra last night! How weird!!

-- Anonymous, April 14, 1999

For the big boobs try Bali -- there's are actually kind of cute and some of the bras have lightly padded straps at the shoulder. Also, there's a new bra called Vanity Fair that I think works pretty well. These are also fairly cute. The cost on these is around $30 but if you go on a sale day you can get a really good deal.

-- Anonymous, April 14, 1999

I know this is a bit late (since this thread has been up for a while now...) but I wanted to mention one more thing...

The first time I did Tae-bo I was wearing comfortable work-out attire, but a not-quite-so comfy sports bra top...I thought I was going to knock myself out when Billy started up with the foot work!! (You know...those little baby jumping-jack like things he does with his feet...) Anyhow, a few days later I decided to look for something better so I didn't end up with bruises and even the sports bra industry is under the impression that less is more...

THPPBT of them all I tell you!!!!

So, it's been like 9 months since this thread ended, but I have to respond.

I totally understand the first post by Angela. Yet, for some reason, I still stubbornly go to VS's first when bra-shopping. If I look really really hard and force a saleslady to do her job, I can usually find a 38D (yeah, natural). The last time I was in there, I found plenty of Ds, but the sizes were like 34, 36. I thought to myself, "What's up with all these mutant sizes?" Then it hit me. "Ohhhh, silicon." *roll* So now, instead of catering to natural women, these shops specialize in perfectly framing lollipop women with large implants.

-- Anonymous, January 05, 2000

Hey, I take offense to that. I'm not a mutant! I'm naturally a 36D. No implants here. Actually, I'm a 34DD, but try finding one of those. Yeah right.

-- Anonymous, January 05, 2000

Uh, yeah. 36D here, too, no silicone. 34/36D are really common bra sizes, too, I think, at least judging by the response to a similar topic on my forum. And I'm hardly a "lollipop."

-- Anonymous, January 05, 2000

Whoops! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend any of you. I was just thinking of all the VC catalog models and getting grumpy about my far-from-modelesque shape I suppose.

*trying to extract virtual foot from virtual mouth*

I missed this discussion before, but thanks to the lovely alert system I can jump in now!

Yep, I'm a big-tittied babe. (And what they like to call online a BBW, but I've lost 22 lbs so maybe I can drop that title soon. Not quite a Reubens painting; more like Botticelli or Titian, only with bigger boobs!) I started out as a 40DD, and now that I've lost the weight I'm between sizes. And doesn't that suck! The 40DDs are too big and the 38DDs are too small!

I too have found that department stores have the best bra selections, but still for my size they are few and far between. You have to dig A LOT, and that gets really frustrating. I don't normally have hours and hours to paw through all the bra racks just to find my size (then you try all 5 on and only one fits properly -- and costs $40!). Even at Lane Bryant, I have to dig through all the sizes that are larger than mine. (This between sizes business really sucks because I'm between departments or stores or whatever -- I'm too small for most of the clothes at Lane Bryant, but have a hard time finding things in my size at department stores that don't look like something someone's grandmother should wear. Guess I need to go hop back on that exercise bike and solve that problem quick!)

I have found that Victoria's Secret CATALOG has larger sizes than the store. (The biggest problem with that is that if you don't already get their catalogs, once you start getting them they come about 4 times a week. That's a lot of dead trees.) But you can also order online, and they have a fairly decent selection there, if you don't get frustrated with their slow-loading graphics. They even have a thingy (good vocab!) where you can plug in your size and what features you're looking for, and it will show you just those bras. And a lot of the matching panties -- even the buttfloss -- I mean thongs -- come in XL.

My biggest complaint about them, however, is that yes, they have BEAUTIFUL bras for *somewhat* larger women (and yes I even own a couple of demi-cup bras and I look HOT in them, if I do say so myself! :) ), but most of them are all lacy or embroidered. Which is great, because like everyone else has said, you just can't find pretty bras in larger sizes. BUT -- I wear a lot of t-shirts and knit clothes, and that lace looks pretty lumpy underneath a lot of it! It just doesn't work under a good deal of my wardrobe. They need more seamless bras in larger sizes.

I have another problem with bras by ALL manufacturers, and that is that I go around with my high-beams on most of the time, if you know what I mean. Which wouldn't be a problem if I still had 20-year-old (even DD-cup) boobies, and they still pointed somewhere east or west. (I don't ALWAYS mind the glances at my chest, especially not since I've gotten so heavy and rarely get leered at anymore!) But as I've gotten older they're definitely going south (just wait til you get to be my age, girls!), and of course due to their size they were never that perky to begin with. "High-beams" pointed at the floor are just not that attractive to most people. I wish they made something heavy-duty enough -- and in my size, obviously -- to keep this semi-permanent T.H.O. (titty-hard-on) a lot less visible. I know this is WAAAYYY too much information for most of you, but if someone can give me a suggestion it's worth embarrassing myself in a public forum! (Anyone? Anyone?)

Here's something that no one else has mentioned that sorta sucks about having a large chest: no matter how thin you get, you always tend to look larger than you are. I look at pictures of myself when I was thinner, and even though I was a C or D cup, I look at least 10 lbs heavier because of The Girls.

And exercise bras! Forget about it! I have yet to find one that fits me properly. I would really like to do some more hard-core exercising, but I'll have to stick with walking and stationary bike- riding instead of jogging or Tae-Bo (which I'm too uncoordinated to do anyway, but that's another story) until I lose some more weight. Which is sort of a catch-22, is it not? (No, I think that qualifies as a BIG ASS CATCH-22!) Anyway, seems like we larger-breasted chicks could use more support than smaller women, but God forbid they make sports bras in our sizes.

And another thing: once I lose 40 more lbs, what the hell are my boobs going to look like then? I really dread even thinking about it.

Ahh....I feel better for having vented. I do so love The Girls, don't get me wrong, and I wouldn't trade much about them, but they can be real bitches to put up with!

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2000

Yo, ChickenGrrl, let me know if you find a solution for the "high-beam" situation! For some reason, my office is perpetually at like 70 degrees which is a little too chilly. The only solution I've found is to get those semi-padded bras, and when I'm already in a D-cup, why would I want to make them look bigger? And the bloody bra isn't even comfortable.

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2000

I hear that if you buy those cotton pads that are used for applying/removing makeup and place one in your bra, it covers the high beam situation. Actually, the purpose of doing so is to protect the poor nipple from the winter - you're supposed to apply a "glob" of moisturizer, cover with a circular cotton pad, and then put your bra on.

Yes, I know strange things.

-- Anonymous, January 06, 2000

Piper, you rock. I think I shall try that this very day, as I just happen to have a bag of those little doohickeys in my bathroom right now. I've also heard about these things that are self-adhesive that you're supposed to stick on your nipples (saw it in "Glamour" or somewhere) called Petals or something equally silly, but didn't like the idea of gluing something to my sensitive spots! (Plus I was afraid they might not be big enough to just stick to the skin.) Again, TMI, but we girls have to learn this stuff somewhere, right?

Thanks again, Piper!

-- Anonymous, January 07, 2000

Oooh. I'd stay away from those sticker things. I remember once I tried to wear this "natural" bra thing that were big stickers instead of bra straps. They were in these half moons and you'd put them under the breast and up to the nipple and since the stickers were sturdy they were supposed to hold up your breasts.

Huh. Right. Imagine gluing cardboard to the underside of your breasts. Ow. Now rip it off in anger because you've got prom in five hours. Double ow.

Oh, and just for the record, just over these lungs full of inflamed bronchi rest a pair of natural 34D's. They've been this way since I was fifteen. That was also the year I reached 5'3" and stopped growing. Interesting dimensions at fifteen, easy to overlook at 24.

-- Anonymous, January 07, 2000

Pamie, I remember my sister doing the very thing you described before her senior prom. You should also be careful of adhesives 'cause you can develop allergies or have reactions to them. I can't wear a band aid now without it leaving a mark.

I also topped out at 5'3" at 15, but the bust action didn't go into overdrive until I was in my late teens.

-- Anonymous, January 07, 2000

Sounds like me. At about 14, I hit 5'2 3/4" (yes, that 3/4" is important to me), with my lovely set of 34DDs. I was quite popular among the boys until they realized I wasn't easy. The plus was I could always pass for older than I actually was.

-- Anonymous, January 09, 2000

Here's an update. The cotton pad trick didn't work. You could see the little circle of stuff through my bra, and then through my t- shirt, though it did SOMEWHAT mask the high-beams problem. So now I'm back to square one. Maybe I should just have reconstructive surgery (after I lose the rest of this weight, that is), so they point UP, and then I mihgt not mind people whispering about my Perpetual Titty Hard-On behind my back.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2000

Hi. I'm 5"0" tall, 38DD. Ugh. I was 44DD but I've spent the last year losing 42 lbs. Whew.

Chickengrrl, check out www.junonia.com. They have exercise clothes for the larger gal. I bought the first sports bra that ever fit me properly from them. Thanks to Junonia, I can practice Tae-Bo without too much jiggle factor.

-- Anonymous, January 13, 2000

yep. i agree. boobs can suck. i want to know what's up with all of the tank tops? they all have skinny little straps, and if you wear a bra with them people call you a whore behind your back, because the straps show. and these new tank tops that are a little piece of material in the front and are tied with strings in the back, only in my dreams. and the whole bathing suit thing, i totally understand. all i want is a 2 piece suit that doesn't make me look slutty. i'm only 19. i don't want an icky old lady suit. has anyone had luck with the suit thing?

-- Anonymous, January 14, 2000

Amy -- thanks for the scoop about Junonia. I haven't had the time to shop there yet, but I've got it bookmarked for future shopping!

Don't know what to tell you, Erin. Since I wouldn't be caught dead in a two-piece, I have no advice, but there are a lot of places where you can buy the tops and bottoms separately (which is helpful if you're two different sizes). I've seen some really non-slutty ones too. Can't remember the names of the catalogs I've seen though! Check out Victoria's Secret -- they sometimes have decent looking suits.

-- Anonymous, January 15, 2000

36D may be a common size but I could never find more than one and it was scary looking. I even approached a sales girl at Macy's once and asked her about it. She told me it was NOT a common size and therefore they only order 2-4 for each brand. Two to Four ? I live in a very densely populated area of the US. Are they kidding? My salvation came when a Nordstrom's opened in my local mall. They always have a supply of that size in my now personal favorite, Wacoal. No, they are not fancy but they are pretty in a plain way, affordable ($30) and support without looking like a straightjacket. Besides, I love being treated like a queen when I shop in that store!

-- Anonymous, February 29, 2000

Reading all these posts has gotten me all fired up and angry!! Long live big boobs!! Large chests unite!! I am so sick of people making comments on my 'huge', 'enormous', 'out of control' 36/38 D cleavage. Like I am not allowed to wear tank tops or v-neck shirts or ANYTHING that will in any way expose my breasts just because they are on the big side. I also can not get shirts that don;t 'pucker' or pop at the buttons unless I get one that is way bigger than i need. I must also comment here that I am really petite--ablut 5' tall so i can also never EVER find jeans or pants or anything even roemotely short enough unless I wear giant shoes or hem stuff (which looks dumb). And any clothes they make for petite women are horrible--elastic waist, tapered leg, shudder. Well just had to get that load off my big ole chest.

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2000

I completely agree..as a 16 year old with a 32DD size its hard enough to find bras that fit let alone the cute bra and panty sets, etc. that normal kids my age are able to wear. Its not just with bras, but bathing suits, sports bras, etc, and if you finally find a place that sells them custom made, the price is outragous..if anyone has any suggestoins for me please email me!!

-- Anonymous, December 03, 2001

You women just made my day! I always felt like I was alone in my quest for the cute fun bra! And don't even try finding a baithing suit! That's even more of a nightmare because that everyone has to see. It's like you go to the store and your find a suit you like, but the top looks like a bra top!

I dred going suit shopping, I'm only 23 and last year I'll never forget the girl at the department store made me cry so bad, my mom called the store and bitched a fit. I'm 5'4, 128 and a size 38 D. The woman had the nerve to tell me that I needed to shop in the Plus Size section. Yeah like that's really helping me some customer service.

If anyone out there knows where a girl can get pretty bras, a normal looking bikins that won't cost as much as a car payment PLEASE LET US KNOW!

I just found this web site and i hafta say that it has really made me feel better, i am only 14 and i already where a size 40DD, im not fat but in order to buy bras and clothing i have to shop in women sizes..and sometimes plus sizes...and at my age if you dont wear whats "in" then you look like a total retard, so when i try to wear somthing from gap or abercrombie the shirts are tight on me and automatically everybody calls me a slut and i get mouthed everyday, even by people in my family. People always tell me that i need to wear shirts that arent so tight but in order to do that i would have to wear three sports bras. Plus what is it about chests that make guys so crazy, no matter where i go i always get guys whispering about me and following me around...even men way older than me, and it honestly sickens me because i feel like that is the only thing that makes me pretty. I dont know if they have Lane Bryants everywhere..i think they do, but i have found they usually sell really nice, comfortable, large sized bras..well i just wanted to say i feel all of you and i guess the great bra search will never end!

-- Anonymous, February 21, 2002

It's so great to hear other people talk about having big boobs, but my problem is a little different. I am sixteen and I'm a 34DD. Talk about impossible. All my friends are walking around with their little B cups in cute little thin-straped shirts. The bras that they make for people like us have huge straps that are impossible to hide. None of my friends understand, they think its great because all the guys talk about it. They dont see how horrible it is. At least ugly bras have stopped me from wanting to do very much with my boyfriend. The bras that work are disguisting. I dont want him seeing that. It just gets worse and worse. In the summer, i feel like i just want to give up. My friends run around in these tiny little bathing suits and they can get them so easily. I get so sick of even trying to find bathing suits now. The ones that they make for DD sizes look like grandma bathing suits. Yeah, thats attractive. I can never find what i want in my size for a bathing suit. The only way i would right now is to go to a designer and big suprise, sixteen year olds dont have that much money. My sister has the smallest boobs ever and she is 5 years older than me. My mom doesn't even try to understand about bathing suit prices because my sister can go to walmart and pick out the cutest thing for 15 bucks. Me, i have to shop and shop and shop and find something that i guess will do and then pay almost 100 dollars for it. That is rediculous.
