I just placed my advance order for a Coolpix 950 through Egghead , and now have to order accessories like memory, etc. The tech spex for the E950 claim it supports up to 64Mb CompactFlash but the largest card I can find is 48Mb (for as little as $130 w/o adapter). Where can I find bigger memory, and at what price?
Also, do the larger CompactFlash cards consume significantly more battery power?
Lastly, I've found SanDisk's USB CF reader for $65. Are there any better deals for USB or SCSI devices?

Microtech Int. is supposed to start shipping in the next few days of a
USB reader/writer (PC/MAC) for CompactFlash/SmartMedia cards (yes,
both formats!). I ordered mine from one of the mail order houses for
about $60.

Brad, I have a 64MB and an 80MB CF card from Lexar Media
(www.digitalfilm.com). I saw an ad a couple of days ago for a 96MB
San Disk CF card. I don't believe it is ready to ship yet. It was
priced at $350. I paid $330 for the 80MB Lexar Media card, about 2
weeks ago.
I do not know of any reason that the camera should not use cards
bigger than 64MB. Kodak says that the DC260 uses up to 32MB CF cards.
That is because that is the largest one Kodak sells with their name
on it. It uses my 64MB and 80MB cards just fine. Like you, I have
ordered a 950. I made a deal to sell my DC260 earlier today. I'm
really anxious to get the 950.

d-store is selling Lexar 64MB CF for $249 (you have to call their
sales staff it isn't on the wesite). They also will have the Sandisk
64, 80, and 96MB CF when Sandisk ships. For more info, call 1-888-

Egghead, 4-16-99, is offering 64M Lexar CF cards (Lexar calls it
"digital film") for $165.35 + tax. Lexar claims its CF cards are
faster than SanDisk's (see Lexar's web site). To see a comparison of

I too have ordered a Coolpix 950, and want enough storage to hold the
uncompressed TIFF files, and I ordered and received 2 of the Lexar 64M
CF cards. I got mine from HardwareStreet.com, but at the time I
ordered, Egghead didn't have their current price.
Lexar listed the 64M CF as "4X" speed. They have an 80M CF card they
list as "8X" speed. See their site for an explanation of this.
