It occurs to me that we should all do a y2k preparation drill day tommorrow april 8 just in case the nrc tests on april 9 is not a drill. #1 Why would they host drills on a y2k sensitive days such as april 9 and sept 9 unless they suspect that these days may cause real problems. It's cover ones own butt day. If we do have an I.T. failure they can blame it on something else because the public is not expecting y2k failures this early. I don't think they know if they have it fixed enough. My gutt feeling is to go thru a preparedness exercise tommorrow and watch very closly on the net and radio to see if blackouts occur tommorrow night at 12 midnight starting on the east coast and moving west, or if april 9 that morning causes disruptions. While I dont believe that this will be the time,we really dont know what's buried in the utilities source code built and engineered over the last 40 years.

My thought watch and prepare and buy a few extra groceries,10 gallons of bottled water,fill my bath tub,fill my propane tanks,top of my gas tank,extra batteries for my radio's and lanterns.The rest of my preparations should suffice. I sleep good knowing that even if something happens, I'm as ready as I can be for this early date. Also one other thing to keep in mind the longer the War in kosovo goes the more chance that some type of retaliation may be directed back toward this country. The Serbs and Iraqis are shrewd warriors dont underestimate their capacity to stike back. The longer the fighting over there continues the more rapidly you should intensify your preparedness efforts. Hi Mike, just a minor point. While a Julian 9999 is possible, I've never seen a Julian date that was not five characters. April 9 will be 99099. Julian dates are often used because they sort nice. If the day part was shifted, this would no longer work (991 99100...) <:)=

What you are saying then is that the Sept. 9th will be the date you expect to cause trouble?

Or will Sept 9th be 090999? or will it be 09999 to be five digits? Regardless, what date is 9999 or 99999?

I want to get it, but I'm not sure I understand it completly.

Thanks sysman, The mitre org a think tank to the pentagon listed this date april 9 the 99th day of 1999 as a potential trouble day . I couldnt figure out why it would be unless they used a julian format or some other format that counted days. I dont think that it will be a problem day unless they know something they are not telling us.

Proper formatting of both Julian April 9, and of Sept ( include embedded zeros. HOPEFULLY, computers will recognize that neither 09999, nor 99099, nor 090999 equal 999999.
