Just back from SJ Y2K Expo.. Observations...

I went down to the Y2K expo this morning when it opened. There were not too many people when it first opened, but there were lots of TV news cameras and Sound bytes being obtained. A lot of food companies, a store 330 gal of water in a cardboard box (with a thin plasic bag liner), lots of Generators(4 or more exhibitors), Several Solar systems (good quality), composting toilets (the rep lives in the Santa Cruz hills and is not worried about Y2K, nothing to prepare for, it'll blow over quick (ie: sales are slow)

One city (Concord) which is 60 miles away had a community outreach booth with lots of Y2K brouchures. Yes sir Concord is Y2K ready. (real close the Naval weapons depot...)

Some cheezy outfits selling marked up radios and a number of upright companies that have been in the preparedness business for tens of years.

A fair number of older (than me in my 40's) folks in the crowd. Some were sort of nervous and upset by all this Y2K stuff. For first timers to learn about what's out there it was a pretty good show. If you are a GI and have already made your purchases I did not see any bargains. But if you are new and just "got it" this would be a good place to visit.

Y2K Expo is at the San Jose, CA Expo Center from April 7-9, 1999. It is a small affair by convention center standards. Did the whole show in 1.5 hours with time to linger at everything that looked interesting.
