weight gain in males after first birthday

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

So we all know by now that Maine Coons are slow to mature. But can anyone give me an idea of how much growth to expect per year? My neutered male weighed in at 16.5 lb. on his first birthday. What can I expect for each of the next two or three years. I don't suppose it is really important as long as he is healthy, but I'm curious. Also, should I bathe him every so often just as a matter of good grooming or only if I think he needs a bath? So far I have not given him a bath.

They will grow in length and height until they're about 20/24 months old; after that they will start broadening in the chest and build more muscle. I don't think they will gain all that much more weight after 2 years old - maybe a kilo or 2. I think. Any other opinions?

I only have one big guy.He was big at 1 yr.15lb.Didn't change much after. My other boys got more muscle later, but not alot heavier. They got more coat. Washing should be done once a month to remove dead fur and oil.Rinse really well.Use GOOD quality CAT shampoo.I use DAWN dish soap. But never human products. The MC's are oily.
