I've asked this before but seemed to have lost it.....What was everyone's fave scene and which bit made them cry the most??...Mine is the bit where Rose is standing under the statue of liberty and the beautiful piano and flute music is playing. Also, when old rose is in bed asleep(or not) and the camera scans across the photos....with the piano music. It's beautiful.

I would have to say my favorite scene is also one of the saddest scenes in the movie. When Jack and Rose are in the water after Titanic sank, they swim to a floating board (door, piece of wall-- anybody know exactly what it is?) and Jack helps Rose climb on top of it. But when Jack tries to get on, the board begins to tip over. Jack stops trying to get on the board--he's knows it cannot support them both. You can SEE him decide that Rose must live, even though it means he will die. A love as strong as that--it's something most people search for their entire lives and never find.

Nonnie:

The piece of wood is a wall panel with oak carving, closely based on an actual piece of debris found by a body recovery ship. Page 29 in the big coffee table book has a picture of Jim Cameron with a power drill, touching-up the set-piece.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic has the real wall panel, thought to have been part of the first-class Grand Staircase.

The very start of the movie is very meaningful for me, especially the fade from the sepia-toned newsreel footage to the shot of Atlantic waves, the title, and the shot of the two Mir submersibles as they drop towards the bottom.

The series of fades at the very end of the film, from the shot of the HotO necklace spiralling down to Old Rose's dream, is poignant, as well, especially seeing all those who died in the sinking at the "well of souls" of the first-class staircase.

My favorite scene is from when the lookouts spot the iceberg until Captain Smith orders Murdoch to find the carpenter. I remember sitting in the theater watching the movie and having forgotten that Jack and Rose were even on the TITANIC until I saw the iceberg. And even though I knew the ship was going to hit the berg, during that scene I just mentioned, I remember thinking "Maybe it will miss the berg! Please miss the berg!!" Of course I have other favorite scenes, too, but that is my most favorite.

Near the end of the movie, Rose is standing on the Carpathia looking up at the Statue of Liberty. There is a very real sense of almost inexpressible sadness and loss about her. Although I have a number of scenes I could call 'favorite', this one is probably it.
