There is a big problem here, nothing except the log(?) seems to be in good sharp focus and the plane of focus seems to be just in front of the eyes. A bit more d.o.f. would help a great deal and, since you are shooting flash I assume that you could have stopped-down to f/5.6 or even f/8 (this looks like f/2.8 or less) and f/16+ would look great on this animal, I'd love to see all the details of its skin and the pattern.

The composition is fine, even the axial flash is acceptable in that the one shadow falls directly below the animal's head and there aren't a lot of others to complicate the image.
