Webmaster please remove the thread that says What's the purpose of Java Script in post listed in an earlier thread . I opened it earlier and a screen came on and said it was a virus and started a screen to delete files. I clicked off and it doesnt appear have caused any aparent damage to my machine yet. Please remove it from this site. thanks y2k aware mike. To the person who put that virus on that thread, You are a low life piece of garbage and what goes around comes around. Y2k is a serious event coming in our future just like war and one day you just may need one of the fine humans who are working diligently day and night to post life saving info,to help prepare as many as we can to survive the coming apocalypse. Take your childish games else ware you fool. I grew up with people who survived the holicaust and they warned me that it could happen here given the right set of circumstances. Y2k will meet the criteria, It's no time for games prepare for the war and help others to prepare.

Sorry, folks -- I had deleted one or two messages from that thread yesterday, but I didn't wait for the full 30 seconds for the remaining Javascript prank to take effect. After seeing this thread this morning, I went back and checked again -- and have now deleted the entire thread.

After the last flurry of such pranks, Phil Greenspun (the "ultimate" web master for this site and all of the other ones using his software) disabled the use of HTML tags in the subject line of a thread. This has reduced the impact of the hackers somewhat, but we still have to deal with Javascript nonsense in the message postings themselves.

As various people have suggested here, if you're concerned about this, turn off all of the Javascript features in your browser before venturing into this forum...

Thanks for your patience, Ed

I already asked Ed Yourdon to remove it Mike...tried to warn folks...the April Fool's Children are on the prowl. We've had problems with other embedded stuff lately...Hang in there, but Caveat Emptor I guess....

BTW I've virus scanned my computer and this scripting stuff is not a virus, but a nuisance. Why don't people monitor their children better...?

Once again, I suggest that you TURN OFF Java/JavaScript when you visit this site. More and more of this non-sense is showing up here. So far I haven't seen any that do any real damage. <:)=

OK Sysman, I'll be a fool for five minutes and ask a dumb question.

How do I do that?

Explorer: View-Options-Security

Netscape: Edit-Preferences-Advanced

OK, I disabled:

Java, active scripting, and scripting of java applets.

Donna's thread still takes me to Craig's childish virus page.

Ideas?

Well, I just looked at the source on Donna's thread. This is NOT JavaScript. It is a "hot" HTML link, with a 30 second delay. This is different. I don't know of any to avoid this. Great, this is all we need! Damned kids... <:)=

PS - I thought this was in reference to the "Gary North site hacked" thread, which I looked at earlier, and was a JavaScript harmless "virus". Sorry. <:)=

As stated on other threads, for Netscape: disable everything (you can leave auto load images checked) and the page won't refresh...

don't know about MSIE...don't care.
