APRIL RETAILER REPORT

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Three weeks ago, I asked if there were any sites listing peoples' experiences with retailers. A number of folks responded with stories of their recent experiences, but no such list was recommended.

So I propose that this be the first Ed Yourdon website Retailer Report.

Please list those retailers of Y2K merchandise with whom you have had a recent experience (good, bad, still waiting, etc.) which you can pass on to the group. Please be specific.

I'll start. My local Walmart in north Georgia last week offered 36-roll packs of Charmin for $7.

I ordered a solar-powered motion detector light from Jade Mountain early in January. Still waiting.

From late January to early March, my local Albertsons on the Eastside (east of Seattle) had eight rolls of store-brand TP for $1.00, three rolls of store-brand paper towels for $1.00, and a 24-package case of Top Ramen noodles for $1.91--no limit to how many you could buy on any of these items. I bought a lot, but now I wish I'd bought a lot more. (Feverishly scouring the weekly newspaper inserts for repeats on these items...)

I bought my solar panels, wind turbine from ZZZAP online. All arrived within 10 days. I gleen my TP from old SEARS catalogs and corn cobs! (;{D

Ordered a pressure canner from Lehman's on March 21; I was notified by E-mail and post card that I would have a 5-7 week wait.

Gayla, don't know if you are close to a Home Depot, they carry the Heath Zenith model SL-7001 for around $80. I have installed one and it works great.
