Trees on Rock Face in Zion

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Shot in a discouraging rain in Zion NP, UT. Probably the 80-200/2.8. Certainly on a tripod!

Nice shot. I too love shooting in the rain. Blus skies are boring. ;>

Do you have any that are mistier...i.e. fog and mist between you and the tree/cliff? I think it would be more interesting that way...

I would crop out the very topmost portion though. The bright area keeps drawing my eye to it.

Nice job.

Yes, I agree with Keith. Crop the top sky off down, just before it touches the mountain edge on the right side.

Nice composition. Good result.

I don't find the composition all that pleasing. There is an "attempt" at a diagonal, but then the line breaks. Somehow the overall effect is one of imbalance. I love misty shots, but this one is sort of inbetween, not really clear, not misty enough to make it moody.

Perhaps I would crop a bit of the top, but I would definitely crop the left side of this image so that the bottom of the slope touches the lower left hand corner. Better yet, when I shoot this image, I would rotate my camera a bit to the right, again placing the bottom of the slope right at the lower left hand corner as well as including some more of the trees on the right side.

I like the dramatics of the shot, but sunny mist would give better lighting. We're going to Zion next week. Any must see's. Larry Korhnak
