City Plans Emergency Power Supply

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ City officials plan to buy about $1 million worth of electricity generators as a safeguard against a power outage if computers are shut down by the millennium bug next January.

The 13 generators would include five portable units and would be assigned to various buildings like police headquarters, communications centers, fire stations and City Hall.

Milwaukee officials say their emergency generator plan is not just a response to the Y2K phenomenon but represents equipment that could be used in years to come.
