Daryll,

GI = get it. DGI= don't get it and DWGI= don't wanna get it. All referring to where you are with Y2K! Mary

GI means "Get It" DGI means "don't get it" DWGI means "don't or doesn't want to get it". IMHO means "in my honest opinion", TEOTW "means the end of the world" and TEOTWAWKI means "the end of the world as we know it." and welcome to the group.

Y2K Pro is a DGI. In its case DGI = disruptive gadfly infestation.

By our self-reported definition, a GI is someone who has gotten past the awareness phase (the first 1% of the task) and reached at least the assessment phase.

The more advanced GI's have progressed well into the remediation phase, and at least one (thanks, Mr. Rimmer) has actually reached the testing phase.

By contrast, a DGI may also be into the remediation phase, but regards the process as purely an insurance policy, and remains unconvinced that remediation is guaranteed to be necessary.

The "it" that GIs "get" varies from GI to GI, but in all cases is more than the so called "bump in the road". In very general terms, what GIs "get" includes such things as:

Many Y2K coding errors will not be fixed in time.

Some of the unfixed coding errors will have substantial adverse effects.

Varied opinions of the severity and/or duration of the adverse effects.

Varied opinions of the probabilities of any particular scenario.

Preparing for a variety of economic problems is prudent.

Accepting unsubstantiated optimistic forecasts is imprudent.

Exchanging information and checking references is prudent.

Helping others is a good idea.

Wading through troll posts is a nuisance

Maintaining a sense of humor helps.

Welcome!

Jerry

A GI is someone who realizes that there will be negative consequences to their life due to y2k and is actively preparing.

My wife and I counted 10 couples that have been talking to us about y2k for over six months. They have read books and all are on the internet. They are very interested. They read and talk and read and talk.

Only two of the ten couples are preparing in any meaningful way. To me, 8 of the 10 are DGIs. Once the herd starts to move I am sure they will become GIs real fast.
