I've noticed that my 380 EX sends a dim beam of light from the AF assist at all times, even when off! The only way to make this light go away is to take the batteries out.

1) Is this normal? 2) Isn't this a drain on the batteries?

Well, my 380 EX was busted, so I got it fixed under warranty. I first had to convince them there was a problem, but after that, they just replaced the circuit board inside and all works ok now. The AF assist stays off.
