whiskers changing color

THIS IS A GREAT FORUM ! Thanks for this forum. I HAD ALOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR 4 Y/O FEMALE BROWN TABBY, RUBY JUUL JOHNSEN.MOST OF THE CHARACTORISTICS I SEE OTHERS COMMENTING ABOUT , OUR CAT ALSO SHARES. I WAS HOPING SHE WAS OK, AND WE WERE TREATING HER WELL,SEEING OTHER MC TO BE THE SAME, HAS BEEN GREAT! WE HAVE BEEN IN THE COMPANY OF CATS SINCE CHILDHOOD(MOSTLY SIAMESE), BUT HAVE FOUND THE MAINE COON EXPERIENCE TO BE A UNIQUE ONE. I'D HAVE TO SAY THAT THE ADDITIONAL GROOMING THAT SHE REQUIRES, IS WELL WORTH THE PLEASURE SHE BRINGS INTO OUR HOME. JUST NOTICED THAT RUBY HAS BEGUN TO GROW A BLACK (IN A FIELD OF ALL WHITE)WHISKER. IT HAD BEGUN TO GROW AS WHITE, BUT TURNED BLACK. THIS IS ON BOTH CHEEKS EQUALLY. IT SEEMS THAT EVERYTHING ON THIS CAT IS SYMETRICAL. ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS CHANGE OF COLOR ON A WHISKER??? BOB

Hi there, yes this breed is fantastic. We have several of our babies (of all ages) that have hair folicles of different colors. It is genetic and not a sign of aging or damage. I even have a couple of girls where the hair shft of the whisker is both black and white. Part of the fun combined with the length of the typical MC whisker. Hope this helps. Another tip- if they have broken whiskers, pluck them (they really don't mind) this was a new follicle can grow in! Take care, Farrell
