How prepared are you?

To all;

I sat on the beach at half moon bay many years ago. At that time I could "feel" a big storm on the horizon. It was big, very big. I watched in rapt attention when OJ had his trial. I listened to the news and I thought it was "El Nino" that I felt. But that came and passed. The feeling persisted. I watched in rapt attention when Clinton had his trial in the congress... I did not understand Viet Nam (I have a draft number 352, I never saw the horror)... I watched the surgical strike in Iraq.. But tonight... I realize that it may be for naught. I do live within 10 minutes of a 7-11. I have prepared for Y2K but I did not understand that the world would decay into the abyss before my eyes... I did not understand how the "HOARDS" brought down the Romans. Now I may have a clue.... We live in a world where the information is "controled" it is Roller Ball.... Let us pray it is not "Road Warrior" ... It is late, let us all look at how we are prepared for Y2K... The government may be distracted and "miss" this important date due to pressing demands.... We will be on our own.............. \ Are you prepared?

We made our last Y2K purchase today and we estimate that we have enough food for 10 years. You should see our food storage room! Wow!!! A big load off my mind. I'm 63 and if Y2K fizzles, I have a nice supply for our retirement! Can't lose, one way or the other!

Prepared enough for what? I'm not prepared for my death, I'm 48 years old should I run down to the mortician and get my funeral arrangements setup? However, if I'm afflicted with a biological warfare disease (anthrax), there isn't going to be a funeral or a cemetery plot. Instead, I would probably be cremated along with the other millions of people who were afflicted. There! I just wasted $10,000 for a hole in the ground....sombering isn't it? Your time is up when you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Looks like we have powerful people in command delegating acts against humanity that you or I have no control over. So, go ahead and sit by the ocean, it's soothing, comforting and begging you to come hither. The waves are mesmerizing and the waves are comforting, there is a far better place to be.

I am prepared enough to die.

Now that the first order of business is out of the way I can continure to get prepared to try to live until I die and perchance improve on how and when I die.

We are all going to die. I hope this is not news to anyone. The only questions are how, when, and how we live our lives until then.

I won't live as a parasite on someone else.

When I was pregnant with my first child I bought the bottles, booties & blankets. Memorized the books. Attended the classes. I couldn't have been more prepared.

Then I went into labor.....

Deborah--LOL, very funny and so true! Got stuck with mine--no anasthetic and unprepared for natural technique. Who said "that which does not kill you makes you strong"?

Just waiting on a couple more pieces. I GI'd late, like about Nov. of last year. However, I was fortunate enough to have the wherwithall to make purchases in a very short amount of time--and thanks to this forum I knew what to judge as superior. I still retain skepticism, and therefore will keep my investments invested--if they go, they go. But I have enough without them to survive if I have to. It is also amazing the mindset one acquires in all this. I would almost say it is schizophrenic, since I still operate in the DGI world, but my eyes are wide open. It is a similar mindset like the type I revert to when I hunt--not 'evil', or animal, but just to an awareness on a more instinctual level than what most people operate on. And I suspect, if the S(truly)HTF, people will react much like pets who have never spent time outside to acclimate to instinct. It eventually will take over, but the intervening time will be a time of mass panic, and death for some--and that is the time through which folks will have to survive.

Now, I concentrate on the 'small' stuff, water, fuel, and sundries, while still contributing to my investments. I have the luxury of doing so, and thank my Creator for it. I look at people who DGI, and the thought of the train running off the end of the tracks brings a sadness. And I hate to have to harden my heart somewhat. But I realize this is necessary even if it isn't TEOTWAWKI.

But, look on the bright side: If it is truly terrible ( which means anarchy ), those who come out the 'other side' will probably be living in a more polite society, ala Mark Twain's famous statement.

We die when we die and we have little to no control over the event. In the mean time I try and live an upright, moral, ethical, and compassionate life. I try to have a good time, I try to be fun and interesting, I try to use my god given gifts. I've y2k preped within my means knowing full well they are but a drop in the bucket. I know that prep may help at y2k but expect the reality to blow any plans all away. I accept that, am comfortable with that. In the mean time I continue to help others along the y2k route, I continue learning in my areas of interest, I try to make each day rich intellectually and interpersonally, I party whenever I can.
