Major Japanese Bank Bails From UK for Y2K

Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, one of Japan's largest banks, has announced they will shut down their London computer systems that process all of their European transactions by 1 April, 1999. The bank's European and U.S. operations will be centralized in New York using a $2 million hardware upgrade. The bank cited y2k conversion costs as the reason for the move.

Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank is ranked #1 in Japan... for nonperforming loans - ~ $20 billion
