Items to Take With You on the Internment Bus

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Since thousands will end up at Internment Camps (or whatever you wish to call them), what items would you advise people to take with them in their refugee bag?

I recommend: A 1/2 liter of bleach, face masks, toilet seat covers, underwear, toiletries, transister radio w/extra batteries, small bolt cutters......and

Why are you serious about internment? What have you done? What do you fear?

-- Watchful (seethesea@msn.com), March 23, 1999.

A shovel. Sleeping bag. Veil. Actually, will die before will submit to going. No way! Hell no, we won't go.

Internment camps are not a fantasy!!! Klinton's government thugs WILL come looking for you.

I'm Serious,

It has never occured to me to think about this subject.

I won't be going on that bus.

I'll be on another bus. (See C.S.Lewis' works)

Yesterday, in the Washington Post () in the article that said in effect "all we have to fear is fear itself" about Y2K, it gave the Red Cross suggestions for Y2K. Things like a weeks worth of food/water, gas, etc.

The Red Cross says to be ready to be sent to a shelter (ClubFed?) to protect you from elements and danger. I just checked their site, and most of the article is there, but the Red Cross guidelines were removed. Odd. Anyway, without the full story, I can't quote the Red Cross verbatim.

Anyway, here is what they left of the story on their site:

Part of Washington Post story

and a previous thread on this forum about it:

If the GIs are preparing for Y2k in their way, then I would think the DGIs should be prepring in another way just in case they are wrong. It will be too late to obtain food or any other necessaites.

This is a good thread to send to your DGI friends and family. We all should continue to add to it with worthwhile suggestions for they might be needed.

I would take my own toothbrush, a diary, panities, some very warm clothing, a couple pair of shoes and some bartering items (cigarettes, liquor)

Can someone direct me to the Red CRoss article that says be prepared to move to a camp. I am referring to the above post from Anonomous.(sp)

-- Linda A. (adahi@muhlon.com), March 23, 1999.

Linda, see www.garynorth.com Mar. 23. link to Wash. Post. Red Cross: "For prolonged outage be prepared to relocate to a shelter for warmth and protection"

As Watchful said, "Why are you so fearful?" Didn't you pay your income tax?

First, I'm with Leska. I'm not going. Hell No I'm not going!!!! Second, I bet all those DGI's will be happy to go to an Internment Camp/Shelter, if they have scoffed and laughed while the rest of us have prepared. When they have No heat, no water, no food, they will say, "When's that damn bus going to get here!"

I'll shed no bitter tears nor trot like a sheep to a camp. Hell No!

Let's not jump into full blown paranoia. I contend that the most prepared will be the least bothered. Many people after Andrew hit were furious at FEMA for taking so long to get there and help them.

The reason why I am posting this thread is because when you have a gun to your head and the Feds tell you to move or be shot, what are you going to do? I too would rather be shot, put me out of my misery faster. What's the difference if I die in my home or with a million other people who are jostleing to get a glance at the outside world through a cyclone fence. Thousands will gladly get on the bus if they knew they would be getting a free meal. So for the DGIs who think that it's all a joke, go back about 5 years and see how many military bases were closed and what has the government done with them? No new industry has moved into them, why? They are perfect places to house and feed people, the infrastructure is there.

You have to make a long string of assumptions to arrive at the point where you can start speculating about internment camps.

-- Buddy (buddydc@go.com), March 23, 1999.

We're seeing more and more news stories that go like this: "Y2K is being fixed, the only risk now is public panic and hoarding." Project this into the future, when all the DGIs see the world coming apart: "It's all the fault of them damn selfish hoarders! They're the reason we're in this mess!" Remind you of anything? 1930's Germany, perhaps?

Doesn't take a long string of assumptions at all. Doesn't have to be planned for in some big conspiracy. It's happened before, and it takes a true pollyanna to think it can never happen again.

"all we have to fear is fear itself"

Since I'm more honest than the original author I say:

"We have nothing to fear than man himself."

Thank you Betty. Instead of using the term Internment Camps let's use the phrase Efficiency Space or something more politicly correct.

-- Linda A. (adahi@muhlon.com), March 23, 1999.

Screw being politically correct, a turd is a turd.

Serious-

quite frankly the camps are only big enough to hold a few thousand people - which means that most folks wont even be bothered...

More over there is virtually no need to worry about someone putting a gun to your head, since when they see that folks are willing to *ahem* forcefully resist *ahem* relocation (a la, Leska, Gilda, and many of the other regulars, including yours truly) they will most likely simply go on to the next house. That's been observed as common activity elsewhere in unusual situations - hurricanes and whatever. Remember that they (FEMA/RC/etc) are *certain* that no one can function for long without government 'assistance'. They will simply figure that you'll give up and turn yourself in when you get cold, tired, hungry, whatever. It's beyond their comprehension that small groups of people could be prepared to function independently.

Most importantly, though the RC's idea of relocating everybody only works if there is someplace where normal resources are available to which to relocate them AND the resources neccessary to perform the relocation are available as well. Neither will be true in a y2k scenario. Any attempt at massive relocation will inherently fail due to the fact that such relocations would require functional infrastructure...which wont be available following the rollover.

In reference to what Serious said about closed military bases I can only give an example of one in my area. The base is now a school for avionics, the state university has an extension campus on it. The military dorms are now used for school housing and the other housing is used for homeless families to have a place to stay while they get on their feet. No camps here that I can see.

If you are forced onto a bus, what makes you think you will have any choice about what you bring?

Right now, if you are driving your car and are deemed a "bad boy", you get hustled off, leaving your car unprotected or towed, and no option to take your gym bag with toothbrush, whatever.

Ditto if you are homeless and are rousted. What few possessions you may have in the shopping cart are just left there when they cart you away.

Bitter tears of sorrow for the total evisceration of our Constitution.
Your eyes should be red already; it's already totally eviscerated. Any freedom you think you have left is due only to your rulers haven't got to you yet; not that you have any significant legal/constitutional protections remaining.
