Cabin Rental -- Dumb idea or not?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

While gingerly talking to my husband about where to go if things get real bad here in the city, he said "we could go to Hocking Hills and rent a cabin for a while." Hocking Hills is a beautiful hilly area in eastern Ohio with lots of vacation cabins for rent. Is this the dumbest idea you've ever heard or does it have real possibilities?

Seems to me this would only be a possibility if:

1. we were able to rent a place (+ had some money to pay for it) 2. We brought along our water treatment and food and had access to wood for the fireplace. 3. we could bring the dogs (don't want to set loose my vicious 12 yr old golden retriever on the neighbors) 4. the city disruptions were short lived (like 2 weeks).

I'm sure I haven't thought of every contingency. I'd appreciate any of your wise thoughts on this. Thanks.
