Y2K Resources for Newcomers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've put together a list of Y2K resources before, and I think it's time to update it. This thread is for news articles, news sources and Web sites helpful to those relatively new to Y2K issues.

Good for you, Kevin!

Might I also suggest that you make a link out of this:

http://www.senate.gov/~y2k/hearings/

Ugly page, but gets you to the most recent Y2K testimony at the senate. Most recent additions are from March 5, 1999. Cory Hamasaki intends to include one of these in his upcoming Dee Cee weather report. Good stuff here.

Kevin,

One of the things I'm planning on doing this weekend is to organize all the info I have in order to give my first small presentation to a community group in a week. I was planning on compiling a list of bookmarks to make a page and put it on a disk to give to people (I don't want to print out TOO much stuff, it gets expensive and can be unwieldy!).

I want to thank you for saving me a couple hours of work! Really! (I said to myself last night "Don't go online tomorrow, don't go online, just get to work" - sometimes I'm glad I don't listen to myself!)

Here's a little tip folks, if you want to save this list on page for yourself or others for handy reference - In your browser, under view, select "Document Source" (it may be "Page Source") and save it to your hard drive. Then, in your text editor, you can add or remove things, to pretty it up. For example, I'm going to give this to people, so I'll remove the references to Kevin's e-mail address so he doesn't get unwanted e-mail, though I'll leave a reference at the top of the page that he compiled the list.

HTML isn't all the tough, gang, you just have to be willing to try things. This list might be a good a great thing to use to play...

Kevin, Thanks a million!! I was just talking to my academic, legendary, brilliant professor cousin in California; despite her credentials, she is definitely a DGI. I've tried to influence her, but I get the feeling she thinks I'm suffering from psychological distortion or full blown pathology.

So I got on the net to look up a few sites with acceptable credentials that would bombard her with the logic behind Y2K prep. Eureka! You've done all the work for me. I'm printing this out to send to her. (My email is nonfunctional at present.)

I told her I'd been canning beans, which brought on a hearty laugh. If this doesn't convince her, nothing will. This is so complete I'm saving it on my hard drive. Thanks again.

P. S. Have you check out Cops R Us?
