Y2K Family Survival Guide

* name recognition might help DGI's and DWGI's * 48 minutes long * fairly hardcore, dire, troubling background music * very serious except at the end where "the experts" recommend a "band-aid for a bullet wound", in my opinion * according to cover, " what the average person can do now to survive short inconveniences or a long catastrophe".

Ed Yourdon's got a FINE PREPAREDNESS VIDEO also..

Had to put in that plug, of course.

Think I'll send one to Norm!!!!

I am sure that Kroger had a reason other then informing the public about Y2k when they put this video on the check out lane. (Quick, impulse buy location) Could it be they see they opportunity to sell canned goods to the uninformed? Is this not an attempt to get people to buy Kroger Food? "Watch the video, run back to Kroger and Stock Up?"

NOW who is contributing to the panic? The Big Boys are Jumping on the Band Wagon to get their share of the Y2k bonanza dollars.

interesting - all those folks who bought into the "greed will fix it" myth, were *almost* right - greed wont fix y2k, but it may *just* spread the word to prepare.

I love God's sense of irony!

Is the problem that people are making money off of spreading the word? Is the general perception that these videos and books should be handed out free?

Kroger is part of the food service industry that is telling everyone not to panic, there will be enough food. The food supply will not be disrupted. (I think they had a spokeperson at the senate meeting)

Yet, they do not hesitate to put a video in a location to create a quick impulse sale. Why is the video not with the other video stock. They are hoping (1) customers will buy the tape, (2) customers will return to Kroger to stock up. I don't think enough people will buy their video, watch and stock up enough food to create a shortage but it could happen.

The point is, it is like the Kroger is talking out of both sides of the mouth. Don't panic and buy food supplies. Buy the video and stock up. You can't have it both ways.

It just seems hypocritical.

In St. Louis Dierberg's (large grocery chain) has in their book section 2 y2k paperbacks with a "doom' cover, both by author's I've not heard of. These are the only y2k books I've seen so far in the area groceries.
