Sysman,

You create a whole new thread devoted to Norm. Are you sure your staying out of this one?????

-- No (fair@all.com), March 16, 1999.

Its a pitiful cry for help...common when the doombrood are faced with reality.

"no...NO...NOOO!!! Don't bother me with...*gasp*...the truth!"

silly, silly, childrens....

Vinnie radios in: Mutha, help! They're baggin' me at EY!!

Mutha rushes to his aid.................................

Vinnie is actually Mutha's protege.

I don't mean to be disrespectful Mr. Sysman, but I'm one of those fellows who has always (well, almost) been prepared for emergencies, loss of power, no food, etc. So, please don't lecture me. What saddens me is the level that so many of you will go to disrespect others here who have opinions that differ from yourselves. Your Y2K prognostications may be completely right OR they may be entirely and totally wrong. What's wrong with hearing from the other side? What are you afraid of?

-- Norm (nwo@hotmail.com), March 16, 1999.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------

Most people are *not* prepared for emergencies, loss of power and so forth, Norm. This forum is valuable because most of the information presented is documented and verifiable. What saddens me is when the 'Gary North Is A Big Fat Idiot' crowd meme-ishly continue to report news that has been proven to be false. The story that Dr. Ed Yardeni lowered his recession prediction from 70% to 45% comes to mind.

You asked what's wrong with hearing the other side? Nothing except that we already have heard that side. We already know that 85% of the U.S. will be able to get their mission-critical systems fixed in time. The question on this news group isn't about the 85%; it's about the 15%.

What if your doctor told you that 85% of your body is in good shape? How would you feel if he told you 15% of your body like your heart and lungs was in iffy shape?

I saw another one of your threads with a story about utilities in Detroit. That's all well and good -- if you live in the Detroit area.

What are we afraid of? That you just might be able to convince a few people not to be prepared for emergencies, loss of power, no food, etc. that you say you are already prepared for.

Sorry, Mutha. I went thru this with your buddie Vinnie last week. I've given up the role of torch bearer. The others here can handle him quite well. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), March 16, 1999.

I posted a link to the other thread. Please post your contributions there. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), March 16, 1999.

no - Several people pointed out that Norm posts items and never returns. I'm simply pointing out that he did reply to a thresd. Some have expressed a desire to chat with him. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), March 16, 1999.

*sigh*...

Lisa: Silly, silly, girl! I do not know who vinnie is, or norm, or anybody else. I don't "invite" anyone to post here... last I heard it was a free internet.

I do however see a pattern developing here... goes something like this:

ANYONE who posts something other than the 'worst case' scenario is IMMEDIATELY labeled 'pollyanna'. people who stick around for a while trying to help people overcome their fear, are labeled 'troll'...and everybody says "ignore them". Now you come along with this new conspiracy..."everybody is attached to Mutha".

How simple. You should have thought of it sooner. Why have to deal with peoples questions or anything that disturbs the 'meme'...when you can just blow them off, as some 'trolls' protege`?

I've told you before the reason why I 'troll' (pun intended) ...it has ZERO to do with 'converting' the "GI"'s (genuinely ignorant)...but rather in hopes that a lurker or two, who would otherwise be swayed because of fear or whatnot...might think before doing something rash or even foolish. Maybe, just maybe there are those of us who dislike the thought of Grifters and Hucksters fleecing the 'sheeple' and causing genuine harm.

Too many people think about Y2K, "If nothing bad happens, I'll just return to normal life...oh well!" But they don't consider the people who ARE taking extreme action... and can't go back.

after a tax-free annuity is yanked early... no going back.

after the sale of a home, and moving to the sticks... no going back

after leaving your job... not likely you'll get it back.

after ... well, you get my point, I hope.

Don't feed the trolls; they're dieting!

-- Donna Barthuley (moment@pacbell.net), March 16, 1999.

Trolling, trolling...LOL And what if the 15% just happens to be something extremely critical, oh say most of the medical systems and transportation networks (no not planes falling from the sky)but railroad and distribution nodes. Yeah, I'll believe all these companies, but only if they are successful on 1/3/2000. Until then, I will follow my gut feeling and my experiences in the MIS field.

Better prepared than being a troll.

-- John Galt (jgaltfla@hotmail.com), March 16, 1999.

Mutha,

Normally, you simply throw out a couple of insults and then run away. This time, you've offered a couple of good questions. Good for you. Maybe you've grown a brain cell or two. (am I any better than you, probably not)

How many people do you think there are who have put all there chips in the "the end of the world" game. Answer, not many. I can't imagine that even 1/10th of one percent have sold their sweet suburban homes and moved out to the sticks.

What is your game? Do you believe that people should not prepare at all? Should they follow FEMA guidlines? What, Mutha, should we be doing. Obviously, what we are doin disturbs you to no end. Please inform me.

-- d (d@usedtobedgi.old), March 17, 1999.

Better page Mutha for this one d. Probably won't be back here. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), March 17, 1999.

Welllllll technically, I guess I'm supposed to in the middle of that crowd believing that 85% will be fixed.

Problem is, its March, 1999 - and I have seen little credible evidence that any more than 1.5% of anything is fully tested yet, much less 15% tested satisfactorily; much less 85% completed and tested.

And I've been fighting hard the past few weeks to get my own programmers to actually and reliably fix some apparently simple errors in our own CAD program - and these are simple errors that crept in unnannouced (and obviously unintended) when we changed the format of a few files from 8.3 to 9.3 format to bring two other programs mutually compatible.

See why I'm very, very skeptical that the simple public statements made by the administration are anywhere near the truth - I've seen the same "delivery" lies broken open and exposed during testing. Regularly.

So when they claim 85% will be ready, to me, that means 85% will only break in unknown and totally unexpected ways, but that the operators probably have a reasonable chance of finding and fixing the remaining bugs as these last few errors become exposed over the next 15 months.

The other 15-20% that is not ready by Jan 2000 won't ever run - because the company or agency trying to run it will probably either be bought out by the survivors (10%), simply stop using it (5%), or close its doors entirely (5%).

Sysman,

Sorry, but you're taking yourself "off point."

Let Norm post his "good" P.R. news. There's plenty of counter-point news available. Find it, and "balance' out his choices.

Government hearings are a good place to start.

Hey sissyman...pucker up, sucker!

(_O_)

I don't live on this lunacy BB, like the rest of you extremists...I have a life!

For someone who is supposed to be a troll...I sure am getting a hell of a lot of attention, lately. NOONE, and I mean NOONE answered my first few posts to this forum with anything but flames and meme BS. Thus the adopted 'fun time' approach...

You think you are all so smart...just a little bit wiser...more savvy than the rest of the 'sheeple'... yet when asked to produce proof that the world is gonna melt down... nothing!

EY made the lame argument that the MODERATES had to prove that firetrucks will start on 1/1/00, in his latest fiction...even linked to a thread...cuz a couple of jokers posted supposed 'proof'...'for the record'

I called 'em on it... and suddenly...poof everybody disappears... whats up with that?

d: what should you do? Whatever you want. I really don't care what you and the other 'wiser and smarter' "gi"'s do...just quit trying to 'convert' people to your newfound religion based on hearsay...

sheesh... ya take a day or two off, and look what happens...
