Need help with hydo-electric power?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

We are considering purchasing property that fronts on a river. I am interested in using the power of this river, if possible, as a source of power. I realize this may be late in the year to be only thinking about this, but we might just take our chances anyway. If anyone could advise as to where to get information or explain the principle, we would sincerely appreciate it. God bless. Mary

Here are a few places to start. You might want to look at the cute submarine generator in alt-power catalog. Hugh

If the river has flow but little or no head (drop), look into Aquair submersible pumps (the company is in Stamford, CT) and Real Goods, among many others, carries them. They can generate up to 2.4KW per day and you can have more than one going at a time.

Mary; Congradulations on getting some ground, I am considering the same thing. I have planned on several different projects, one is using a washing machine water pump which has a V-belt pully on it and attach a delco alt. which will produce amps for a battery charger. Then use that for 12 volt lights that are from the patio light kits available from home centers. Except i plan to devise an item to also pump the same water up to a holding tank,so I also have extra water if needed.

You can also plan on a water wheel and have it in the water like a paddle wheel type.
