Introductions After introductions at each of the seven ITV sites, Dr. Betsy Quintero presented on Qualitative Research. The full text notes will be posted to the Web, including the three assignments which are due March 26th.

Research Qualitative Research deals with the collection of data via interviews using open ended questions and observations in a naturalistic setting. Qualitative data is different from quantitative data, for example quantitative data deals with results gleaned from analyzing standardized test scores. Quantitative Research deals with tests, numbers, frequencies, chi squares, and other analytical numerical charts and formulas.

The Complementary Methods text encourages researchers to think and reflect. Several individual Reflect & Write projects were presented. After a Triangulation exercise, some students shared their insights. One triangle consists of job/career, research/M.Ed. and life experience. A quadrangle identified consists of truth, discovery, client needs, and personal competency/credibility.

Assignments: Dr. Quintero gave three assignments: 1. Read Chapter 1, Section 1, pages 1-70 in Complementary Methods. 2. Respond to Chapter 1 in the Complementary Methods text. Write a couple of paragraphs from a "strangers viewpoint" who is observing you interact in your professional setting and post to the Web "Complementary Methods Ch. 1 response (your initials) " due 3/26/99. 3. Locate and create APA style bibliographic citations for 10 literature review SOURCES on your proposed thesis topic. You may search the Web, use local library resources, or connect to UMD Library and ask Martha Eberhart Galinsky to assist you in searching the free online databases (email: meberhar@d.umn.edu.

Vince Crary's Presentation (fulfills contract for grade) Survey and results from Annual M.E.S. Conference Fall 1998. Questions and Answers. Handouts distributed by ITV site contact/M.Ed. student.

Program Coordination Concerns Governance Team members were selected: Vince and Joyce will serve for six months. The Team will meet on a monthly basis via teleconference, first meeting mid-March. Carol and Clark will serve as student representatives on the Governance Team beginning September 1999.
