concerned about failure of abs on '93 to '97 cars

Don't sweat it...when they fail they fail 'safe'. You just lose the ABSD, not the brakes.

I'll second that. My 92 Dodge van is supposed to have ABS but the sensor is broken. The brakes work ok without it.
