Our daughter spent a year in Tamworth as an exchange student many years ago... Leo, I have a question for you. We have some friends who are planning to go to Australia for the coming new year. They plan to rent a camper, and travel around for 2 months. They like travel, but also they seem to think they will be avoiding y2k problems here... What do you think? Are they likely to have problems? (They are sort-of-GI's and have stocked up on several weeks of supplies) Suzanne L

I am a Sydney-ite. But I got out at the end of July 1988. I am up in the boonies of southern Queensland now. Give me an email if you like. There are a few GIs around, but only a few.

Do you have a specific reason for asking? My brother-in-law is there, but he doesn't "get it" yet. I'm working on providing him with the basics on y2k, but it would be wonderful to get actual Aussie material on power, etc. Do you have any URL's, etc?. I don't know if he would be interested in being contacted, but as I said, he is as yet fairly uninformed, and has asked me to update him.

More about the friends I spoke of that are planning to go to Australia... They plan to spend new years eve and the first days of January in Sydney before they start travelling by camper. Sydney is a BIG city... Are they nuts, or am_I_nuts for thinking they are nuts? Is there anything you would say to them, from your "insider" knowledge, regarding their plans? We are concerned for them, have told them we think it's nuts... but it's their business
