When was this written??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I guess Prince, or the "Artist" or the "Symbol" has more on the ball than I gave him credit for:

"Well two thousand, 00, party over, oops out of time!"

This song keep going through my head and it's driving me crazy!! How old is it?

It will be so ironic to hear the clueless masses singing this on New Year's Eve!

Prince

1999

{Controversy Music - 1982}

Don't worry, I won't hurt U

I only want U 2 have some fun

I was dreamin' when I wrote this

Forgive me if it goes astray

But when I woke up this mornin'

Coulda sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple,

there were people runnin' everywhere

Tryin' 2 run from the destruction,

U know I didn't even care

'Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over,

oops out of time

So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999

I was dreamin' when I wrote this

So sue me if I go 2 fast

But life is just a party, and parties weren't meant 2 last

War is all around us, my mind says prepare 2 fight

So if I gotta die I'm gonna listen 2 my body tonight

Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over,

oops out of time

So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999

Yeah

Lemme tell ya somethin'

If U didn't come 2 party,

don't bother knockin' on my door

I got a lion in my pocket,

and baby he's ready 2 roar

Yeah, everybody's got a bomb,

we could all die any day

But before I'll let that happen,

I'll dance my life away

Oh, they say two thousand zero zero party over,

oops out of time

Say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over oops,

out of time

So tonight we gonnaparty like it's 1999

we gonna, oww

Alright, it's 1999

You say it, 1999

1999

1999 don't stop, don't stop, say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over,

oops out of time

Don'tcha wanna go---(1999)

Don'tcha wanna go---(1999

We could all die any day---(1999)

I don't wanna die,

I'd rather dance my life away---(1999)

Listen 2 what I'm tryin' 2 say

Everybody, everybody say party

C'mon now, U say party

That's right, everybody say--- (Party)

Can't run from the revelation, no---(Party)

Sing it 4 your nation y'all

Tell me what you're singin', baby say--- (Party)

Telephone's a-ringin', mama--- (Party)

C'mon, c'mon, U say---(Party)

Mommy--why does everybody have a bomb?

Why is it that so many True Believers exude this level of pomposity? How are you going to feel if Y2K does not meet your expectations?

Vinnie -

Alot better than you will if Y2K doesnt' meet yours.

Roland,

"1999" was first released in 1982 and was a minor hit. It was re- released in 1983 and became a major hit.

Vinnie, The whole problem with this Y2K thing is that even if there is only a 10% chance Y2K problems are bad, we're all screwed. So preparing for Y2K is like an insurance policy. You hope the worst doesn't happen, but if it does you should be prepared. I also think that if you prepare wisely, many of the things you buy will be beneficial later on even if Y2K does not turn out to be a serious event.

I hope you are not taking the chance, and are doing some preparations. I think most people reading these notes would not want you to suffer, even if it is only a remote possibility that things will be substantially bad.

Sincerely, Apple

Vinnie:

As I said on another thrad, I will be OVERJOYED to invite anyone to join me in July of 2000 at Stonewall Range, where I hope to put a few rounds of 9X19, and .40 through my Millennium Mill, collect the splinters, and use them to start the bonfire for a cookout.

UNTIL that time, I'm going to be a heavily preparing fool, because, if I still need the mill in July, I'd kinda like to have the stuff that goes with it.

Kevin, that's the power of MTV for you... back in the days when when they actually played music videos, instead of 'reality' shows about whiny gen-Xers.

Where's Martha Stewart when we need her?
