Annulment- Can a former spouse stop it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

At any point in an annullment process (if at all) can a former spouse stop it? Do they have to also agree to the annullment? Is it possible that the church will also decide against an annullment? How long does it take to find this out? If that does happen are you able to appeal it? Thank you for any responses.

Can you stop it? No but you can participate in it and should. Does the Church ALWAYS grant an Annullment, No. If a valid marriage exists it can't. You can appeal a decision but once it is declared from Rome the court (The Roman Rota) of last appeal then it is so. Make sure that you take the time to answer all the questions you are asked carefully and truthfully.

It seems to me that this person needed adequate representation. They should have been directed to the Saint Joseph's Foundation. And why is this person being counseled to provide testimony that could hurt their interests?

It may well be that a prosecutorial mindset which focuses on a specific 'outcome' is inherent in the American norms, tribunals and 'pastoral' support groups.
