brown skin and filters

Hi, I'm a newbie. I am thinking of getting some color filters to help make the ordinary look more unusual, as well as the usual red filter/dark sky stuff. I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience using color filters to lighten and/or darken brown and dark brown skin. What filters or combinations are most useful here? Also, any film suggestions for someone like me who does not yet have a darkroom? I'm looking to do people shots and general outdoor (daytime) shots. I'm using Nikon N70 & 50/f1.8.

An orange filter will lighten skin (brown or otherwise) and reduce blemishes a medium green filter will darken skin and accentuate blemishes.
