greenspun.com : LUSENET : Games Workshop Discussion : One Thread

if anyone can tell me why GW keeps raising their prices on stuff. I can't see paying 22.99 for some hunks of plastic in the shapes of a space marine tactical squad!!

thanks

Now, I don't know if you're from a communist country or not, but you see, Citadel, and Games Workshop operates under the system of capitalism. That means that if the have a monopoly on stonkin' 25mm wargames miniatures and the games to support them, well, they can ask whatever they want for them. because they can. because we will pay. Whay other choice do we have? Warzone? or that Ogre game? I think not, GW is where it's at, man. Think of it this way... when it comes to wargames we are on the cutting edge of technology here! All for a mere 75 bucks for a boxed set, and about 250 for a decent 1000 point army. that makes 325 folks. Is that much to pay for being at the top of the gaming food chain?

besides, since none of us can afford miniatures anymore, we can devote more time to paining and modeling the little suckers!

Yeah its all a big Monopoly scince games workshop doesent consider other models "legal" to use they force you into buying thier models if you wanna play thier games.

Hey! warzone models arent all that bad and thier a hell of a lot cheaper

Yeah, but warzone has such boring armies. I should know I wasted my time on them four a year now. The rules are fantastic though.

I would have to agree with you Chester. I don't buy miniatures anymore because I can't afford them, you get so little for as much as you pay. Take for instance the five man plastic terminator squad, that's $30. I bought Space Hulk for $60 and it came with two terminator squads, 20 genestealers, and the game itself with rulebooks and board sections. It's not like Games Workshop had to make a new mold every time they casted a plastic model like the terminator, there's really no justification for paying $30 for a few ounces of plastic, it should really cost $10-$15 at the most for their effort and resources. Paying $12 for five plastic plague marines and $30 for five plastic terminators seems funny to me. I just want to play the game without paying an arm and a leg. I love it though!!!!

I must totally agree with you on this one. One answer is 2 buy stuff 2nd hand. For #60 I bought off a mate over 60 soldiers (including 3 imperial guard asassians )4 inperial guard tanks and the rulebook, magic book e.t.c. If your fed up of buying Azhag the slaughter ( Fantasy Orc Warlord )on a wyvern for #25 then my mats offering a tenner for it.
