Hangin out in Raleigh. You've also got Critt Jarvis in Wilmington. By the way, Roland, where are you?

Lurker, in Charlotte

As of March 7th, my four siblings and my mom, all of whom live in NC are preparing for at least a grade 5 event. The "Wildweasel clan" can be found north of Durham, along the NC/VA border. On occassion I'll even venture south from snow country the "ol' Tarheel weasel den".

In fact it's almost time for the spring visit. Maybe besides getting to see greenery two months before our northern locale, I can run into a few Tarheel State Yourdonites this year?

Check your e-mail, WW, I sent you a meal invite.

I'm another lurker working here in Raleigh and living in Franklin County. I don't know how bad this is going to be, but it gives me an excuse to have an even bigger garden this year!

WW, the Weasel Den is going to get iced up tomorrow morning. Might be a good shakedown for the y2k preps.

Lurking... have been for a while. Lived in Raleigh, now in Charlotte.

I'm in Charlotte...is everyone here clueless or what? My neighbors "have a Mac" so they are "O.K". Oh well...more stuff for me!

Yo!

Let's start connecting statewide. I know of Y2K activities in Asheville/Hendersonville, Charlotte, RTP, east and coastal.

I just got back from a successful Y2K Seminar hosted at Barnes and Noble (Wilmington)... made some great connections. Business, government, hospital, media, churches....

"Slap my face," he thought to himself. "Now, I really can start preparing in place."

I'm headed for DC tomorrow, but I'll be back Friday. Launching a revamped web site is next up.

So... what do you want on it. (Yes, it will have a search engine)

Critt -

Can you elaborate on activities in Charlotte. I have been searching in vain for months for groups. Neighbors are clueless and I really would like some support from fellow GI's.

A web site would be great. How about remediation info by city or county? The state website is so outdated it's useless (or at least was). I emailed them and requested updated info and have heard nothing. Form letters to email to officials would be good too.

Cary, NC will hold public y2k summit on March 23 from 3 to 6 pm in Room A of the Cary Community Center.

-- Puddintame (dit@dot.com), March 10, 1999.

I'll be in Fayetteville for New Years Eve; in Atlanta now.

Roland, it is very easy to feel isolated in preparation isn't it? I know of no one else personally who is preparing. But then no one knows we are either except the checkers and baggers at grocery. (I can just see them wondering if we really eat all that rice--just wait till I start with the sugar, they will think I am moonshining!) This BB has been a great resource, and even provided a few laughs! We must stay positive. Located in NC mountains near VA border.

Myself and a friend in Winston-Salem. (We're both IT professionals working for different companies.) Heard of one other person in our area but haven't contacted yet. Know of several others who are aware of the problem and planning preparations. My homeowners assoc. published 1/2 page newletter article with URLs and suggestion people become informed. I hope to get them to publish more. IT co-workers are aware of course but do not talk about prearations. Many think it will be a bump-in-the-road. I think it will be more than that.

Puddintame,

Gee, wish I could be in Cary on March 23rd to see whether it's good information or spin. I lived in Cary nearly 15 years; moved in December to the Pacific Northwest. Recently got a contract on the old Cary homestead, and the proceeds will help immensely in finalizing my Y2K preps. I've got a lot of friends in Cary/Raleigh (DGIs, sadly), so I'll be interested in hearing about anything that comes out of the meeting. I wonder if they'll talk about the recent problems at Shearon Harris...

So, any of your Charlotte dudes interested in hooking up?

-- anon (anon@forNow.com), March 17, 1999.

I'm also a Franklin Countian. Dookie, are you aware of the status and position of our esteemed county? I tried, in vain, about 5 months ago and 2 Chamber of Commerce meetings to organize a community meeting. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE was even interested. (panel of 12)

Lots of rolling eyes and watch-checking. Only worried about cramming the new sub-divisions in next to US-1. If you check the state page for NC, you'll be even more dismayed at the lack of progress in the entire state. The pdf files are extremely depressing.

Puddintame, print the state stats out for the Cary meeting. I hope to make it there, but may not be able to.

anon,

I would be, though I dunno how much longer I am going to be living here. At least another month, I'd wager.
