Too many weirdos

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Religious prophecies, government concentration camps, canned chicken, black helicopters, dirty power, outhouses, and beans, beans, beans. Folks, this forum is very weird. I doubt this is what Yourdon had in mind. Good bye.

Well...... I guess its like real life, a little bit of everything.

But there are some very brilliant people here. More importantly, some of them are very funny too. If you stayed around long enough you'ld find that a LOT of very important topics are discussed, but no one can stay focused on the real problems of Y2K without welcoming a few distractions now and then.

Asta la vista! Go listen to Ted Koppel - he's not weird at all.

-- @ (@@@.@), March 06, 1999.

As long as the CIA is listening, I guess we won't miss Goodbye too much. Later dude.

By the way, I heard Larry Gershwin's (of the CIA) testimony on tape delay today on CNN. After hearing that, the question is not "do you get it?" The question is, "Can you understand plain English?" That piece was pretty much right between the eyes.

-- ho deedo (hodeedo1@yahoo.com), March 06, 1999.

Too late ho. Goodbye is gone forever. . . . Har-dee-har-har!! These banking industry/ClubFed shills will be here till hell freezes over cause they're getting paid $4.00 per hour and they'll never see that kind of money again!

-- Puddintame (dit@dot.com), March 06, 1999.

Oh no, don't go. You didn't even get a chance to meet dIEteR.

How about joining the circus?

Arrivederci!

-- Carol (cajun@bayou.com), March 06, 1999.

Like I said.

Like I said. $4/hour. He's got a case full of Snickers bars. ("Not going anywhere for a while?")

-- Puddintame (dit@dot.com), March 06, 1999.

If they were M&M's they'd last through the summer - cause "they're not in his hand". Do Snicker's melt if kept in the attic with the toilet paper?

-- Robert A. Cook, P.E. (Kennesaw, GA) (cook.r@csaatl.com), March 06, 1999.

Smart people and geeks are wierdos to "ordinary" people anywhere. You didn't belong here to begin with.

Buhbye now.

Dear Goodbye: What did Yourdan have in mind? Since Ed hasn't dissolved this BB, I guess this is what he had in mind. This BB isn't for the straight and narrow, it is for people who want to learn and communicate. It is for the open minded, not for people who are narrow minded because they will fall by the wayside. There are some who never have anything constructive to say and are basically myopic in their perception of other people and think so highly of themselves that they lack the skills and insight to interact within a BB such as this. I have seen many come and go here so you are nothing new to this BB. Have a nice life, and one more thing, got beans?

-- bardou (bardou@baloney.com), March 06, 1999.

If you really have to GO,,,,,,,, hope you got TP!

-- Scotty (BLehman202@aol.com), March 06, 1999.

Must be a guy with low tolerance for fin de siecle conversation.... Different folks have different thresholds, that's all.

Whistling past the graveyard. Twirling a rabbit's foot. Not stepping on the cracks. Sleeping with the light on. This business takes people differently, depending.

Nobody's really enjoying this.

If Goodbye does not like weirdness, then Goodbye is NOT going like what is going to happen in the next few years.

Good luck to him/her/it, he/she/it'll need it.

P.S. What is weird about canned chicken?

-- Ken Seger (kenseger@earthlink.net), March 06, 1999.

Goodbye,

Many millions like yourself, CHOOSE not to acknowledge the potential threat that Y2K imposes. If they were to acknowledge they would have to validate...and validation then requires a response. This is your motive for denial.... THINK VERY HARD ON WHAT I JUST SAID.

Howevever, I am convinced Y2K problems will happen whether YOU choose to believe it or not. Personally, I have no worrys at all as I am prepared for indefinate breakdown.

I now am working very hard on forgiveness. This is part of my prayers. Its very tough when you are spiritually weak as I am to forgive people as yourself. Hopefully, I will learn to be completely forgiving of others before things fall apart. I do want to help others, but today I can't stand stingy people. I hope this caracter defect will soon be gone from me so I may help people as yourself next year.

May GODS Will Be Done

Mike

and shut the bloody door after you!

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), March 07, 1999.

Serious question to you all. What are you going to do if person goodbye turns out to be your next door neighbor or close relative? The thread responses work well within cyberspace, but what about real life? Most responses look like the purest ivory tower cult humor, definitely not what will allow you to deal with the real person on your doorstep in a meaningful fashion.

-- Mitchell Barnes (spanda@inreach.com), March 07, 1999.

Well I hope there is enough sand out there to put your head in. The government has occupied all the beaches. Good luck!

-- Duane (Duane24062@aol.com), March 07, 1999.

Mitchell, all my neighbors that I know have Goodbye's attitude, which is why I'm on this forum so much, the only place where I can discuss Y2K meaningfully. It's also one reason I won't be here next winter. And as for my family, those on my side most are aware and preparing, and those on hubby's side are clueless (and live in my area.) For them, I stockpile my house here. Easier than trying to get through to them.

-- Chris (catsy@pond.comq), March 07, 1999.

I guess I'd better say more. I've been reading the forum for about a month, and I've been VERY interested. I GI in a big way. And I have learned a lot from reading this forum.

But I'm also distressed at the predominance of right wing and fundamentalist type messages which seem incredibly intolerant. I also have been very turned off by the references to "sheeple" and "the herd." But it was not fair of me to characterize the forum itself as "weird."

I doubt that "weird" was the right word for me to use. I doubt there is a right word or one word to characterize this strange forum.

Anyway, the hostility in response to my post was interesting. Some thought I DGI, which was, I think, an assumption beyond the content of my post.

So, I apologize and I hope that you accept it. --All the best in what you hope to accomplish.

-- goodbye (tooweirdforme@nothanks.com), March 07, 1999.

I wonder why we won't miss you? I can name many who have gone by the wayside on this forum (so they say), but only to come back as a different pseudonym, I think you will be one of those.

-- JMTCW (JMTCW@JMTCW.com), March 07, 1999.

Like I said. Goodbye will be here until the cows come home to a cold dark barn.
