Napali Coast - Kauai, Hawaii. This is a vertical shot taken at the same time as a previous post.

Would have benefitted from a neutral density filter. Even though the ide of putting a red flower in the foreground is neat, your other pictures is graphically stronger, I think. The white foam from the waves at the left edge is very distracting too.

Maybe you could have used fill flash to bring out the red flowers in the foreground a bit. Your camera exposure meter may have selected the correct settings for the sunset but forgot about the foreground and shadows. You could also try 1. Bracketing, or 2. Opening the aperture 0.5 to 1.0 stop or longer shutter speed to maintain your depth of field. (I'm just guessing, for all I know this could have been a manual mode shot and you like it this way.) Nice composition.

Thanks for the comments so far. The white water on the left was pretty much unavoidable since there was a reef there and the waves kept breaking on it. On another shot, I tried using fill flash on the flowers, but I must have used too much because the light came out too harsh and I thought it gave it an unnatural effect.

The shot actually WAS taken with a 2 stop GND filter (Singh-Ray) and I metered to try to prevent the sky from burning out (which as you can see on the horizon, it started to do).

The shot was taken with Fuji Superia Reala 100, so bracketing exposure wouldn't have done too much. I guess I should have bracketed the amount of fill flash so I could get the flowers to show up better, but not look unnatural.

What is your subject, the flowers the ocean, or the sky and coastline silohette? I think cropping everything out below the thin white line along the coast is a more interesting shot.
