Speedlite 550 and external battery packs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have brought a 550EX recently and i am now looking to purchase an external battery pack. I have reduced the list to the canon compact batery pack and the Quantum Bantamn. My question to any one in the know is how does the Bantam fit the 550? I know the CPE fits into the socket. But cant find out for the bantam.

other comments about which is better would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm sure the Bantam will work with the 550Ex but its a pain, You have to use the type of module that goes in the battery chamber then use velcro to hold the door shut or notch the door so it will close. The Canon battery pack just plugs into the external power connection on the flash. Much easier and cleaner!

You should also be able to use a Quantum turbo battery with the Canon EOS cord (I forget which one). I have a 430EZ and use 540's at work and they work fine. You have to have batteries in the flash to work the electronics for the exposure stuff, but the Quantum is great. For less weight and price look at the Quantum Turbo Z. It doesn't last as long, but it will give you a lot of power.
