Comparison scanners Mimolta sp scan verse Nikon LS2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am going to buy a scanner and you have reviewed both the Minolta speed scan, NIkon LS 2000. You gave the speed scan a high rating and I need to know how much I will give up by buying it over the Nikon.

What I particularly liked in the Speed Scan was its control software, which I thought was very intuitive and easy to use. The LS-2000 is both more capable in several areas though, as well as considerably more expensive. One of the biggest differences is that the LS-2000 incorporates the "Digital ICE" technology, which is very effective at eliminating the effects of dust and scratches - a considerable benefit if you're going to be scanning LOTS of work. Another major capability of the LS-2000 is its ability to average-together multiple scans of a single image, further reducing image noise in the deep shadows. The Nikon LS-30 retains the Digital ICE capability, but loses the multi-sample averaging. As for other image-quality issues, download and compare the test images, and you'll get a pretty good idea of resolution, color saturation & purity, etc.
